What are the responsibilities and job description for the Produce Clerk position at BERKELEY BOWL MARKETPLACE?
Purpose: To deliver a great customer experience while stocking and rotating merchandise in the produce department; to maintain a neat, clean and visually appealing department and to perform other tasks as required in a safe and efficient manner.
Status: Reports to Produce Management Team.
Responsibilities:
· Greet all customers and provide them with prompt, courteous service and assistance.
· Be able to differentiate between various types of produce and related merchandise including taste, seasonality, price differences between varieties of similar classes of products (i.e. different types of apples, potatoes, etc.)
· Follow approved procedures for receiving, code dating, preparing, storing, and price marking, scaling and restocking products to ensure quality, accuracy and product rotation and protection.
· Keep display cases and other merchandising areas stocked and signed; display merchandise in an attractive, appealing, and organized manner.
· Unload trucks and transport merchandise to Produce Department that weigh 25-60 lbs.
· Control freshness, quality and temperature of product by following safe food handling procedures.
· Check refrigeration equipment for proper performance regularly; report any failure immediately.
· Utilize and maintain equipment as required by department; report any equipment problems immediately.
· Maintain produce cases, walk-ins, prep, and storage areas in clean, safe, and orderly condition, meeting health department standards: remove trash promptly, break down boxes, clean cases, wipe surfaces, wash sink and buckets, clean up spills, sweep retail floor as needed.
· Assists in other areas of the store as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Knowledge/Skills:
- Previous produce experience preferred.
- Basic computer required.
- Basic math skills required.
- Knowledge of produce, natural foods, and their different uses and preparations.
- Other:
- Ability to lift up to 60lbs.
- Ability to be standing and/or walking for majority of shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements for extended periods of time.
Pay: $20.00 - $32.00 per hour
