What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiber tester position at Berean Group International, Inc.?
Location: Allen, TX
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform end-to-end testing and troubleshooting of single-mode fiber optic cables using OTDR and Light Meter/Power Meter equipment.
- Properly set up, configure, and operate OTDR equipment, including using launch/receive fibers and selecting appropriate wavelengths.
- Analyze OTDR traces to identify and locate faults, bad splices, macrobends, and connector issues.
- Conduct insertion loss testing with light meters and understand acceptable loss budgets.
- Generate clear, accurate, and professional test reports for customer delivery.
- Maintain and clean testing equipment and fiber connectors.
- Adhere to all job site safety protocols.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Must have proven, hands-on field experience with OTDR and Light Meter/Power Meter testing.
- Ability to explain the step-by-step process for setting up an OTDR test.
- Ability to interpret OTDR traces and identify events (e.g., splices, connectors, faults).
- Knowledge of testing fundamentals: why a launch fiber is used, typical acceptable loss values per splice.
- Experience creating and providing test reports to customers.
- Must be confident in ability to receive an OTDR, perform a full test, and produce a report without assistance.
- Reliable transportation to site in Allen, TX.
- Ability to pass a technical screening interview.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with various OTDR equipment brands (EXFO, Viavi, etc.).
- Splicing experience is a plus but not required.
Project Details:
- This is a contract position beginning immediately and lasting through January 2025.
There is a strong possibility of transitioning to a long-term splicing project upon successful completion
