Job Title: Systems Engineer I
Location: Santa Clara, CA 95050 (100% On-site)
Employment Type: 12 Month Contract with the possibility for extensions, (W2 Contract)
Pay Rate: $59.00 – $62.53 per hour
Role Overview
BEPC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Systems Engineer I to support the development and optimization of next-generation sequencing technology. This role focuses on experimental execution, system-level analysis, microfluidic device development, and data interpretation within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering and scientific environment.
The ideal candidate is technically curious, hands-on, and eager to grow expertise across systems engineering, instrumentation, data analysis, and experimental design.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately execute, document, and report experimental methods, materials, and results
- Become an expert in the operation and performance of a high-throughput sequencing platform
- Design, implement, and analyze experiments related to microfluidic device processes and operating parameters
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and perform failure analysis in a fast-paced development environment
- Debug instrumentation, device, software, and process issues to improve system robustness
- Analyze experimental results and present findings with clear, actionable next steps
- Apply statistical methods, design of experiments (DOE), and process control techniques
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and scientific teams
- Maintain meticulous written and electronic records
- Communicate technical results clearly through reports and presentations
Qualifications Required:
- 0–5 years of applicable industry experience (2 years preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Bioengineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Statistics
- Or a related discipline
- Background or coursework in molecular biology, biochemistry, or surface/materials science
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills (experimental, instrument, device, software, reagents)
- Experience designing and executing experiments
- Excellent written, verbal, and technical communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and documentation practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Preferred:
- Experience with statistical data analysis (JMP or Python)
- Python programming experience
- Understanding of or hands-on experience with:
- DNA manipulation techniques
- Sequencing methodologies
- Wet laboratory instrumentation
