Role Overview
BEPC is actively seeking a highly experienced Gas Turbine Performance Lead Engineer to join our customer's aerospace engineering team in Phoenix, Arizona. This role supports the development and performance analysis of advanced gas turbine engines by leading system modeling, thermal analysis, and performance optimization efforts throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS), gas turbine engine performance and operability, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). This position offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and contribute to the development of next-generation aerospace propulsion systems.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Engineering & Performance Modeling
- Build, debug, refine, and maintain steady-state and transient thermal models using Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS).
- Develop and maintain customer-specific NPSS engine models.
- Perform turbine engine performance and operability analyses throughout the product lifecycle.
- Support engine definition activities during all phases of New Product Introduction (NPI).
Systems Analysis & Integration
- Perform systems requirements analysis and requirements decomposition.
- Support Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) initiatives.
- Integrate NPSS models with MBSE tools, including Cameo, when applicable.
- Validate system models and ensure technical accuracy across engineering programs.
Technical Leadership
- Mentor engineers on NPSS modeling techniques and best practices.
- Promote knowledge sharing and technical growth within the engineering organization.
- Lead technical discussions and provide engineering guidance to multidisciplinary teams.
- Solve complex engineering problems involving propulsion system performance and operability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with systems engineering, design, test, and program management teams.
- Prepare and present technical reports and engineering analyses to leadership and customers.
- Support engineering reviews and customer meetings.
- Adapt to changing program priorities while managing multiple technical assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another related technical discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in gas turbine engine performance and operability modeling and analysis.
- Extensive experience using Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS).
- Strong understanding of:
- Gas turbine engine thermodynamics
- Steady-state engine performance
- Transient engine performance
- Aerospace propulsion systems
- Experience performing systems requirements analysis and decomposition.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) environments.
- Experience integrating NPSS models with Cameo or similar MBSE platforms.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical teams.
- Strong presentation and technical writing skills.
- Experience supporting commercial and military aerospace propulsion programs.
- Demonstrated success solving complex engineering challenges involving turbine engine systems.
