Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
Minimum Experience: Two years of progressively responsible clerical experience in a law enforcement environment OR any combination of education and experience which would provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
Minimum Certifications: ACCESS/WACIC/NCIC Certification
Other Requirements:
- Experience in customer service, law enforcement, or the public sector preferred.
- Must successfully pass Pre-employment and Post- Offer Testing, and an extensive background investigation.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License if driving a vehicle for County business.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the processing and completion of specialized support areas of law enforcement and provides courteous and efficient customer service to Benton County residents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are essential for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.
- Provides first line customer service to internal and external customers; greets, receives and screens visitors and customers; receives calls on a multi-line phone system and routes calls to appropriate individual or takes messages.
- Addresses and resolves customer questions/concerns as able and refers complex inquiries, requests, or complaints to appropriate staff.
- Maintains accurate case files, records, and logs of police information.
- Provides background checks and other requested information to officers and authorized agencies.
- Assists the public by issuing concealed weapon permits, processing or receiving various applications, record check requests, documents, and forms, and/or scheduling appointments.
- Processes and reconciles daily transactions and deposits on behalf of the Records and Civil division.
- Assists in managing accounts receivables, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Collaborates with the Finance Administrator and Administrative Lieutenant on projects involving inventory, timekeeping, and record-keeping.
- Assists in the administration of contracts.
- Functions as liaison between the department and other law enforcement agencies, the court, Prosecutor's office, and other agencies, coordinating department activities and schedules as authorized.
- Receives, receipts, and records fees received for permits, record checks, and other services provided by the office; performs routine posting of records and balances cash daily.
- Enters, scans, updates, and maintains information in spreadsheets, databases, and reports.
- Maintains electronic filing, paper filing, and record systems to provide easy access to records and information; provides retention of records as required by Office and County policies.
- Assists other department personnel during peak period of work or for absences.
- Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:
- Functions, procedures, and applicable regulations of the Sheriff's Office.
- Administrative policies and procedures of the County.
- The County's and Office's operating requirements, policies, procedures, and practices; and local, state, and federal regulations related to department programs and operations.
- Current office practices and procedures.
- Operation of standard office equipment and software consistent with this position.
Skill in:
- Organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
Ability to:
- Maintain the security and confidentiality of police records and information.
- Interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations.
- Read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
