Job Summary





Testing for this position is required. The POST test will be offered on Thursday, January 15th, 2026, at 9:00am.
JOB SUMMARY
Performs law enforcement and crime prevention activities relating to state and local marine and criminal laws and ordinances including arrest, transport of adults in custody, investigate crimes and criminal complaints, and prepare necessary reports. Work is regularly reviewed by a full-time deputy, sergeant or other management staff in the Sheriff’s Office for conformance to laws and departmental policies and procedures.
  • We are looking to hire 1-2 full time seasonal employees (40 hour per week) May-September 2026 and 1-2 part time seasonal employee to work weekends (20 hours per week).
  • This position is an on-call position with a maximum of 1040 hours per year. Hours will be available on an irregular, fluctuating basis.
  • Workdays will typically be between Thursday through Sunday with the ability to take one to two weekends off during the summer. All seasonal positions will be expected to work or be available on the major weekends and holidays during the summer.
  • Hours are typically 10-hour days from 9am - 7pm, or 10am - 8pm later in summer.
  • Call outs to assist with a water rescue/recovery at various hours are possible.
  • Marine Deputies are encouraged to be Reserve Deputies with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office during the off season of Marine Patrol.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid State issued Driver's License with good driving record.
  • 21 years of age.
  • US Citizen.
Special Requirements
  • Selected candidates will be required to complete the Oregon State Marine Board swim test (tread water for 5 min, hold breath 30 seconds, swim 100 yards, float unassisted for 5 min).
  • Complete POST-Police Officer Selection Test (Testing for current BCSO Reserves or Employees will be waived.)
  • Successfully pass a background, psychological and medical evaluation before being hired.
  • Show proficiency and meet BCSO qualifications and standards for firearms and defensive tactics.
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications within 60 days of hiring.
Ideal Candidate
  • Reserve Deputy or Police Cadet experience preferred
  • Prior boating or marine experience
  • Prior law enforcement certification or training
  • Have a valid Oregon Boater Education Card
  • First Aid and CPR certified
