Responsibilities
The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all cleaning and sanitation activities within the Ready-to-Eat (RTE) food manufacturing facility. This position ensures that equipment, production areas, and facility infrastructure are cleaned and sanitized in compliance with company policies, GMPs, HACCP, SQF/BRC standards, OSHA regulations, and all applicable food safety requirements. The Sanitation Supervisor leads sanitation employees, verifies cleaning effectiveness, and supports production readiness while preventing product contamination and cross-contamination.
- Supervise and coordinate daily sanitation operations for RTE processing and packaging areas.
- Ensure compliance with food safety programs including HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, allergen control, and environmental monitoring programs.
- Verify proper cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, utensils, conveyors, drains, walls, floors, and production lines.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure equipment and production areas are ready for startup.
- Monitor chemical usage, concentrations, and safe handling procedures.
- Train sanitation employees on:
- Cleaning procedures
- PPE requirements
- Chemical safety
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- GMPs and hygiene practices
- Maintain sanitation records, logs, and documentation accurately and completely.
- Coordinate with QA, Maintenance, and Production departments to ensure sanitation effectiveness and production schedules are met.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies.
- Investigate sanitation deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor sanitation KPIs including ATP results, environmental swabs, audit findings, and downtime.
- Assist during third-party, customer, USDA/FDA, and internal audits.
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of sanitation chemicals and tools.
- Enforce employee attendance, discipline, and performance expectations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to sanitation efficiency and food safety.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and work in wet and cold environments for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear required PPE including gloves, aprons, goggles, face shields, and respirators if required.
- Able to work in an environment of wet floors, cleaning chemicals, cold temperatures; noise from processing equipment and frequent walking and standing

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or food science background preferred.
- Minimum 2–5 years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in RTE or high-risk food manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of:
- HACCP principles
- SQF, BRC, or other GFSI standards
- GMPs
- SSOPs
- Allergen control
- Environmental monitoring
- Chemical safety
- Ability to read and understand sanitation procedures and SDS documentation.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and sanitation tracking systems.
Preferred Certifications
- HACCP Certification
- SQF Practitioner Training
- OSHA Safety Training
- PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) preferred
