Salary: $71,611 -$140,000Reports To: K-8 DirectorPosition Type: Position is temporary full-time, exempt, to cover for an employee on a leave of absence. Position is tentatively scheduled to be January 2026 to early June 2026 and salary will be pro-rated based on length of temporary position.Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. Beyond the classroom, Bentley faculty members participate meaningfully in aspects of student and campus life serving as role models of compassion, respect, justice, and inclusivity as citizens of the world.Criteria: Self-motivated individuals who want to play an integral role in a dynamic school community.Responsibilities (including but not limited to):Teaching Middle School History and elective coursesDeveloping daily lesson plans and assessment of student performanceParticipating in various aspects of student life at Bentley such as advising students, clubs, coaching, or working with student organizationsWorking collaboratively with administration, grade level teachers, specialists, and advisorsDeveloping and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, students, and familiesSupporting and following school policies and proceduresCreating a positive learning environment both remotely and on campus where students thrive academicallyEngaging in regular supervisory duties including drop off, recess, lunch and pick upAttending regular faculty, grade-level, and weekly department meetingsAttending Open Houses, Admissions events, and other special events as neededBeing a positive and contributing member of the Bentley communityCommunicating effectively with parents through conferences, and report writingRequired Qualifications:Bachelors degree in history and/or a related field that requires significant coursework in history, advanced degree preferredExperience teaching historyExperience in teaching writing and study skillsExperience in an interdisciplinary environment with an emphasis on group collaborationExperience in teaching problem-solving skills in addition to traditional core contentAbility and willingness to work with students in large and small group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of studentsDesire to continually examine ones practice with the goal to improve student learningCommitment to issues of diversity, leadership, inclusion, and equity; Candidates who reflect the broad range of diversity of the Bay Area are encouraged to applyA passion for working with young peopleA desire to collaborate in a dynamic community of teachers and administratorsExcellent interpersonal, writing, and communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience in working with grades 5-12 in an academic settingExperience in innovative course design, planning, implementation, and assessmentPay Range: Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level.
