Position Summary
The Associate Mental Health Therapist will provide outpatient psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and families in both in-person and telehealth settings. The ideal candidate is compassionate, self-motivated, and committed to delivering high-quality clinical care while continuing to grow professionally within a private practice environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual, couples, and family therapy services
- Conduct clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional, ethical, and legal standards
- Collaborate with clients, families, schools, healthcare providers, and community professionals as appropriate
- Participate in supervision, consultation, and professional development activities as applicable
- Manage and maintain a clinical caseload
- Utilize evidence-based and trauma-informed treatment approaches
- Adhere to HIPAA requirements, Virginia regulations, and applicable professional ethical codes
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and client-focused practice culture
Qualifications
Required
- Master's degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field
- Eligible for or currently holding one of the following Virginia credentials:
- Resident in Counseling
- Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy
- Supervisee in Social Work
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Strong clinical, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
- Commitment to ethical practice and high-quality client care
Preferred
- Experience working with individuals couples, and/or families
- Experience providing telehealth services
- Familiarity with family systems concepts and trauma-informed care
- Experience treating anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, or relationship concerns
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is based on a 50/50 fee split. Clinicians maintaining a caseload of 20–30 client sessions per week typically earn between $60,000 and $90,000 annually while maintaining flexibility and work-life balance.
Benson Family Therapy is committed to supporting clinicians in building and maintaining a sustainable caseload through referral development, marketing support, and administrative assistance. Benefits include:
- Flexible hybrid scheduling with in-office and telehealth opportunities
- Administrative support, including scheduling, billing, and client onboarding assistance
- Electronic Health Record (EHR) and telehealth platform access
- Clinical consultation, on-site supervision, and mentorship opportunities

- Professional development and continuing education opportunities ($500 annual stipend license renewal fees)

- SIMPLE IRA with 3% match of annual compensation (eligible after 1 year of employment)

Employees become eligible for benefits after 90 days of employment and while maintaining an average of at least 20 completed client sessions per week (80 per month), measured quarterly. Temporary reductions due to approved leave, illness, holidays, or practice-related scheduling issues will not automatically result in loss of benefits.
