JOB TITLE: 2026-2027 Elementary Principal (220-day contract)
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Minimum of MA in Education Administration.
- Certification: Nebraska Administrative and Supervisory Certificate.
- Experience Desired: Five (5) years of experience in public school teaching; experience in education administration and supervision preferred; experience with special education policies and procedures.
- Attendance: Performance of this position requires daily attendance. Benefits and leave policies are provided as identified in contract and Board of Education policy.
- Other Requirements: Knowledge of effective teacher behaviors, district curriculum, current educational trends, issues and technology. Ability to build positive relationships with all school stakeholders.

RECEIVES EVALUATION FROM: In accordance with Board policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for all phases of the elementary school program and personnel, i.e. educational program, certified and classified staff, student body, plant maintenance, community relationships within policy regulations and procedures of the Bennington Public Schools.
INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM
- Provide leadership in the improvement, development and evaluation of the elementary instructional program.
- Provide leadership in the development of educational change, the implementation of programs and the assessment of innovations.
- Cultivate a positive school climate founded in a culture of continuous school improvement.
- Assist in district efforts to comply with Nebraska Department of Education requirements in the areas of standards and assessments.
- Assist in district efforts to comply with Nebraska Department of Education requirements and for accreditation and strategic planning.
- Assist in district efforts to comply with federal mandates of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) regulations.
- Supervise the building of the master instructional schedule and the assignment of professional staff.
- Supervise the development of special instructional schedules, examination schedules and special program schedules.
PROFESSIONAL STAFF
- Oversee recruitment and recommend selection of new staff members.
- Assign specific duties to professional staff members.
- Provide leadership for the professional growth of the elementary staff through in-service programs, by providing information regarding scholarships and fellowships and by encouraging involvement in advanced educational activities.
- Establish an orientation program for new staff and for student teachers.
- Administer the system of instructional evaluation as established by Board of Education policy.
- Develop an effective communication system with staff, students, administrators, Board of Education and school-community audiences.
- Maintain appropriate records for professional personnel.
- Schedule substitute teachers, maintain records of teacher absences and provide appropriate documentation to the superintendent.
- Develop the elementary building staff handbook, inform teachers of Board of Education policies and administrative regulations, and share information with certified and classified staff.
- Approve and assign student teachers.
- Supervise the review, selection and acquisition of instructional materials.
STUDENT PERSONNEL
- Establish a safe and caring school environment.
- Supervise enrollment, registration and attendance procedures.
- Provide for the maintenance, confidentiality and protection of student cumulative files and records.
- Ensure an adequate guidance and counseling service.
- Ensure adequate student health services.
- Supervise the assignment of academic credit.
- Supervise and revise annually the student handbook.
- Provide for reviewing student publications.
- Provide for the administration of an adequate student activity program.
- Supervise the administration of student accounts.
COMMMUNITY RELATIONS
- Provide for parent/teacher or parent/principal conferences.
- Administer a community relations program in order to ensure a cooperative atmosphere between the school and the home.
- Review building news releases and bulletins that are distributed to the community of to specific parent or civic groups.

- Provide for the administration of a system of approval and responsibility for the use of the elementary facility(ies) by individuals not employed by the Bennington Public Schools in accordance with school policy.
MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES – SCHOOL BUDGET
- Supervise the administration of a system of inventory, requisition and distribution of materials, equipment and supplies.
- Administer the development and submission of the annual building budget to the superintendent of schools.
- Provide to the superintendent of schools an evaluation of the elementary facility(ies) needs.
GENERAL ADMINISTRATION
- Assist in the development of the annual school calendar.
- Supervise the completion and submission of reports required by the office of the superintendent, the Nebraska Department of Education, accrediting agencies and the federal government.
- When requested, prepare and present reports to the superintendent of schools and/or board of education.
- Attend principals’ meetings, meetings of the administrative team and Board of Education meetings.
- Attend professional meetings, seminars and conventions.
- Participate in the development, articulation, coordination and evaluation of curriculum and district wide policy development.
- Assist in the recruitment, training and supervision of appropriate classified staff.
- Fulfill all other duties as assigned by the superintendent of schools.
