Position Summary

Reporting to and working closely with the Project Managers, you will collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and shipping and receiving to ensure the materials, tooling, supplies, and outside services needed for production are available when required.

Through organization, proactive communication, and dependable follow-up, you will play an important role in keeping our team and manufacturing operations moving forward.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Purchase raw materials, tooling, components, equipment, shop supplies, and outside-processing services.
  • Review purchase requests and determine the appropriate supplier, quantity, price, and delivery date.
  • Create and maintain accurate purchase orders in JobBoss.
  • Ensure purchase orders clearly communicate material specifications, quality requirements, certifications, drawings, revisions, and delivery expectations.
  • Obtain competitive quotes and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, lead time, reliability, and service.
  • Use SolidWorks and CAD files to review part requirements and assist with obtaining accurate supplier quotations.
  • Confirm that suppliers receive the correct drawings, models, specifications, and revision levels.
  • Work closely with the Project Managers to clarify technical requirements before issuing purchase orders.
  • Confirm that vendors have received and acknowledged purchase orders.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and regularly follow up on items approaching or past their required delivery dates.
  • Obtain updated shipment information and promptly communicate potential delays to the Project Managers and affected departments.
  • Expedite critical materials, tooling, and services when necessary to protect production schedules and customer commitments.
  • Coordinate purchasing priorities with the Project Managers, production, engineering, quality, and shipping and receiving.
  • Assist with resolving receiving discrepancies, damaged materials, incorrect shipments, and supplier quality concerns.
  • Process purchase-order changes, cancellations, returns, and replacement orders when required.
  • Maintain accurate vendor contact information, pricing, lead times, and purchasing records.
  • Support inventory management by reviewing usage, minimum stock levels, and material availability.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs, consolidate purchases, improve lead times, and strengthen supplier performance.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with current and potential suppliers.
  • Assist with sourcing new suppliers and evaluating their manufacturing and quality capabilities.
  • Review vendor invoices and assist Accounting with resolving pricing or quantity discrepancies.
  • Maintain appropriate control of customer drawings, CAD models, and other confidential technical information.
  • Perform other purchasing and administrative duties as assigned by the Project Managers.

Quality Management Responsibilities

  • Follow Bennett Metal Products’ Quality Management System and applicable ISO 9001 procedures.
  • Purchase only from approved suppliers unless authorization is received.
  • Ensure applicable customer, drawing, material, inspection, traceability, and certification requirements are properly communicated to suppliers.
  • Coordinate with Quality to obtain required material certifications, Certificates of Conformance, inspection reports, and outside-processing documentation.
  • Ensure required certifications and purchasing documents are uploaded to the appropriate JobBoss record or company file location.
  • Support supplier evaluations and approved-supplier performance reviews.
  • Assist with supplier corrective actions involving late deliveries, nonconforming materials, missing certifications, or other performance concerns.
  • Maintain complete and accurate purchasing records for customer, internal, and ISO audits.

  • Timely communication of shortages, delays, and supplier concerns
  • Cooperation with the Project Managers and other departments
  • Demonstrated support of Bennett Metal Products’ vision and team-focused culture

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in business, supply chain management, manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous purchasing, procurement, inventory, or manufacturing experience required.
  • Experience using SolidWorks and other CAD software required.
  • Ability to open, review, and interpret 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D CAD models.
  • Ability to identify part features, materials, dimensions, tolerances, specifications, and drawing revisions.
  • Experience purchasing metals, tooling, manufactured components, or outside-processing services preferred.
  • Experience with JobBoss or a similar manufacturing management system is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 purchasing and supplier-control requirements is beneficial.

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to work primarily in an office environment within a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to regularly use a computer, telephone, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally enter production, receiving, and inventory areas.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to comply with all company safety requirements and wear required personal protective equipment in designated manufacturing areas.
