What are the responsibilities and job description for the Backup Sewage Plant Worker and Road Worker position at Benezette Township?
Back-up Sewage Plant Worker consists of 12 months of training and requires a 2-year contract.
Months 1-6:
Learn how to use daily meters when sampling (pH, Dissolved oxygen (D.O.), Total residual chlorine (TRC), Mixed Liquor suspended solids (MLSS))
Learn how to calibrate daily meters.
Learn how to fill and bottle the weekly samples that go to the lab.
Learn how to fill out chain of custody forms that accompany samples sent to lab.
Learn where to take samples each day, and where to write down all data pertaining to the daily sewage plant tasks on bench sheets.
Months 6-12:
Learn each tank process and what it does. Example. A digester holds all old sludge from the aeration tanks to then be ultimately transferred to the reeds beds to be broken down biologically. It is the sewage plant's "garbage can"
Learn how to waste sludge to digester from the aeration tank
Learn how to adjust chlorine dosage.
Learn how to read lab sample results and compare to the NPDES permit to ensure compliance.
Learn how to transfer sludge to the reed beds, and when to burn/cut reed beds.
Learn the sewage plant SOP's (standard operating procedures) completely.
Look at microorganisms in microscope to see bug life within the sewage.
Cover the plant for a day if needed without additional help.
Part-Time Road Worker (as needed)
Assist the Roadmaster as needed with the needs of the road department. Some of these duties include but are not limited to:
Road checks and maintenance
Maintenance of trucks, equipment, buildings, and structures.
Snow removal
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
