The firm provides comprehensive appellate services, from case evaluation and research to brief preparation and oral argument in California and federal courts. It also manages petitions for review and related proceedings before the California Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. Representative matters include appeals arising in such diverse areas as business litigation, employment discrimination, trusts and estates, real estate, family law, bankruptcy, arbitration, and anti-SLAPP motions. Benedon & Serlin, LLP also collaborates with trial counsel in preparing and opposing substantive trial motions and advising on litigation tactics to preserve issues for appeal. With expertise in handling complex legal matters, the firm is dedicated to delivering high-quality, strategic legal solutions.
Role Description
This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Woodland Hills, CA, for an Appellate Associate Attorney. Onsite work is expected initially as the associate becomes integrated into the firm’s practice, procedures, and culture.
The Appellate Associate Attorney will review trial court records, conduct legal research (Westlaw preferred), draft appellate briefs, prepare substantive trial motions, provide strategic legal advice, and present oral argument in appellate courts. The role also includes assisting trial counsel with procedural and substantive legal matters, including jury instructions, settlement strategy, and preservation of issues for appeal.
Qualifications
- Distinguished academic record from an accredited law school
- Law journal and/or moot court experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of appellate procedure and legal analysis
- Experience with Labor and Employment Law is a plus
- Exceptional research and writing skills, particularly for briefs and motions
- Skilled in providing thoughtful legal advice and strategic guidance
- Effective negotiation and settlement skills
- Active membership in the California State Bar
- Excellent oral advocacy and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage complex legal issues and collaborate effectively with trial counsel
