5th Grade Teacher

POSITION TITLE: ELEMENTARY 5th Grade TEACHER

DEPARTMENT: INSTRUCTION

REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL

SUMMARY: To support a flexible elementary grade program and classroom environment conducive to learning and student growth; to establish effective rapport with all stakeholders; to motivate all students in the development of skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to establish a strong foundation for elementary grade education in accordance with each pupil's own ability, as well as federal, state, and local standards/expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

• Maintain a process to remain up to date on the latest teaching strategies and curriculum updates.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials for small groups, as well as individualized instruction, in order to address student needs.
• Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter using district-approved curriculum.
• Incorporate the use of technology to enhance student learning.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning environment.
• Maintain a safe and attractive classroom, including student work and displays.
• Develop and maintain proper data collection and analysis procedures to assess instruction and student growth.
• Identify pupil needs, develop strategies, and make appropriate referrals for individual education plans.
• Plan, coordinate, and provide support for supplemental staff, parents, and volunteers in the classroom, as well as in situations outside the traditional classroom.
• Provide opportunities for availability to students and parents regarding education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
• Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervises all students, supplemental staff, and volunteers within the classroom.
• Adheres to any additional supervision responsibilities according to the Master Agreement and/or federal, state, and local guidelines.
• Assists in Emergency situations according to the Building Crisis Plan.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: · Bachelor of Arts degree

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
• Endorsement in Elementary Education

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and all other stakeholders. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.
