Position: Assistant Instructor
Location: Bend, Oregon
Dates: July 10 (one hour meeting), July 13–17 & July 20–24, 2026
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Compensation: $2,000
OVERVIEW:
BendFilm’s Summer Filmmaking Camp introduces youth to the art and craft of visual storytelling. Through a week-long hands-on experience, campers learn the fundamentals of filmmaking—from concept development to editing—while exploring film as a tool for creativity, self-expression, and collaboration.
The Assistant Instructor plays a key role in supporting the Lead Instructor in delivering engaging filmmaking instruction, guiding students through each step of the creative process, and helping manage classroom energy and flow. This is an ideal opportunity for a teacher on summer break, filmmaker, or teaching artist looking to engage with youth in a fun, hands-on, and creatively charged environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Lead Instructor in planning & delivering daily filmmaking lessons & workshops
- Provide direct instruction support during scriptwriting, filming & editing sessions
- Help students troubleshoot technical & creative challenges throughout the filmmaking process
- Collaborate in classroom management & support a safe, inclusive & encouraging learning environment
- Lead select workshops or group exercises as predetermined with the Lead Instructor
- Support setup & breakdown of equipment & materials for daily instruction
- Capture behind-the-scenes photos or videos for program documentation & promotion
- Serve as a positive role model & mentor for youth participants
- Communicate with the BendFilm staff about daily progress, needs, or concerns
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Background or strong interest in film, media, teaching, or youth development
- Experience working with kids or teens, especially in an educational or camp setting
- Knowledge of basic filmmaking techniques (cinematography, editing, directing, etc.)
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Comfort with iPads, basic video editing apps, or classroom technology
- A proactive, flexible, and supportive attitude
