Job Title: Shipping & Receiving Technician (Heavy Equipment / Yard Operations)
Location: Pasadena, TX
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Shipping & Receiving Technician to support daily yard and shop operations. This is a hands-on role responsible for loading/unloading trucks, operating heavy equipment, and performing receiving inspections. The ideal candidate has direct experience operating large-capacity forklifts and overhead/gantry cranes in a steel or industrial yard environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Load and unload trucks using heavy-capacity forklifts in a laydown yard environment
- Operate overhead and/or gantry cranes (up to 30-ton capacity) for material handling
- Safely handle pipe, structural steel, and related materials
- Perform receiving inspections on incoming materials (dimensions, condition, documentation)
- Accurately record inspection results and material receipts in company systems
- Stage and organize material in designated yard and shop locations
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Follow all safety procedures and equipment operating standards
Required Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in shipping/receiving or yard operations in a steel or heavy industrial environment
- Proven experience operating heavy lift forklifts (large capacity, outdoor yard use)
- Direct experience operating cranes up to 30 tons (not limited to rigging or signaling)
- Ability to read basic drawings, material specs, and shipping documents
- Strong attention to detail for inspection and documentation accuracy
- Ability to work outdoors and in shop conditions (approx. 80% of time)
- Willingness and ability to work both 1st and 2nd shift as required
- Physically capable of working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience handling pipe, tube, or structural steel
- Familiarity with inventory systems or basic computer data entry
- Formal crane operator or rigging certification
