Position Title: Shipping & Receiving Manager
Department: Operations
Location: Bendco – Pasadena, Texas
Reports To: VP of Operations / Production Management
Position Summary
The Shipping & Receiving Manager is responsible for the control, coordination, and accuracy of all inbound and outbound materials at Bendco. This role manages the receiving, inspection coordination, storage, inventory tracking, packaging, and shipment of pipe, tube, structural shapes, and fabricated components in a high-mix, fast-paced job shop environment.
The position requires strong knowledge of steel materials, logistics planning for oversized fabricated parts, and the ability to operate and manage computer-based inventory and project tracking systems. The Shipping & Receiving Manager ensures that customer-supplied and company-supplied materials are accurately received, properly identified, protected, and delivered to the correct work centers in support of production schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving & Material Control
- Manage all incoming material including pipe, tube, plate, and structural steel.
- Verify received materials against purchase orders, packing lists, and customer documentation.
- Confirm material grades, heat numbers, and certifications where applicable.
- Coordinate receiving inspections with Quality Control when required.
- Ensure proper tagging and identification of materials for traceability.
- Assign and maintain storage locations for incoming materials.
Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records in the company’s computer-based inventory control system.
- Track customer-supplied materials and allocate them to specific job numbers.
- Monitor inventory levels for consumables and production materials.
- Manage internal material movements between storage locations and work centers.
- Ensure proper documentation of inventory transactions.
Shipping & Logistics
- Plan and coordinate all outbound shipments including oversized fabricated components.
- Select appropriate packaging methods for pipe bends, structural shapes, and fabricated parts.
- Coordinate freight carriers including flatbed, step-deck, and specialized transport when required.
- Prepare shipping documentation including packing lists, bills of lading, and export documentation when applicable.
- Ensure shipments meet customer specifications and delivery schedules.
Warehouse & Yard Management
- Organize and maintain storage areas, racks, and yard locations.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of heavy steel materials.
- Coordinate forklift and crane operations for material movement.
- Maintain clear identification of materials and work-in-process.
Production Coordination
- Work closely with Production, Scheduling, and Project Management to ensure materials are available when required.
- Coordinate movement of materials between work centers.
- Track job status and assist with shipment readiness for completed work.
Systems & Documentation
- Utilize computer-based systems for:
- Inventory control
- Job tracking
- Shipping documentation
- Material traceability
- Support integration with company ERP, scheduling, and project management tools.
- Maintain accurate records of all material movements and shipments.
Team Leadership
- Supervise shipping and receiving personnel.
- Train employees in material handling procedures and documentation requirements.
- Enforce safety procedures for lifting, handling, and storage of heavy materials.
- Maintain an organized and efficient warehouse and yard operation.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 5–10 years experience in shipping and receiving within a steel fabrication or industrial job shop environment.
- Experience handling pipe, tube, and structural steel materials.
- Experience managing oversized freight and heavy industrial shipments.
Technical Knowledge
- Familiarity with common steel materials including:
- Carbon steel pipe
- Stainless steel pipe
- Alloy materials
- Structural shapes
- Understanding of:
- Material certifications and heat traceability
- Industrial packaging methods
- Freight logistics for oversized loads.
Systems & Technology
- Experience with computer-based inventory control systems.
- Experience using project management or production tracking software.
- Strong computer skills including spreadsheets and digital documentation systems.
Skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication skills with production teams, vendors, and customers.
- Ability to manage multiple jobs and shipping schedules simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in pipe bending, fabrication, or structural steel manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of material handling equipment including forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Experience with ERP or manufacturing management systems.
- Familiarity with export shipping documentation.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a manufacturing shop and outdoor yard environment.
- Ability to lift, move, and handle materials as required.
- Frequent walking between warehouse, yard, and production areas.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
