What are the responsibilities and job description for the Art Fabricator position at Benchmark Arts?
Do you have a technical theater, industrial design, TV/film production, and/or studio art background and are interested in hands-on fabrication?
Benchmark Arts is an established art production company serving artists, galleries, cultural institutions, and the entertainment industry. Some of the work we produce resides in the most prestigious galleries and museums around the world. Other pieces are seen by millions of people at theme parks across the country and abroad. Clients come to us to solve complex design and production challenges and expect flawless results.
We are seeking smart, hands-on craftspeople for project-hire work. Candidates must possess at least an intermediate level of hands on fabrication skill (5 years) and can work collaboratively on all aspects of a project from fabrication to final QC check and installation. By “hands on” we mean that she/he/they will be able to operate a variety of common woodworking, metalworking, and finishing equipment and will be comfortable working with wood, metal, foam, glass, stone, concrete, paints, and/or plastics. Candidates will also be able to read and understand schematics and blueprints and translate these concepts into sculptures and props in a variety of sizes from tabletop miniatures to large-scale installations.
Minimum Qualifications
*High school degree, or equivalent, required. College degree is strongly preferred.
*5 years of fabrication experience in a theatrical, motion picture, theme park, studio art, television, or industrial design setting with intermediate to advanced-level proficiency in at least one (1) of the following trades: woodworking, metalworking/welding, or painting (preferably scenic painting).
Successful candidates will possess:
*A “get it done” attitude with an excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow through on his/her/their tasks with limited supervision
*The capacity to thrive in an environment that promotes personal accountability, integrity, and humility while producing high-quality work product
*A sense of humor and a desire to work in the collegial environment of a small company
*The ability to read and follow checklists, receive oral instructions and feedback, and demonstrate strong communication skills in English
*General math, mechanical, computer skills
*A current and valid driver's license with a positive driving record
*Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 60 lbs
While we are presently looking to fill part-time/project hire positions lasting anywhere from several days to several weeks, there is the potential for these positions to transition into full-time opportunities down the road for the right candidate.
