JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Accounting is responsible for managing all accounting, budgeting/forecasting, credit, and insurance processes, which includes the supervision of the accounting, finance, and credit positions. They analyze current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to ensure organizational understanding and accurate forecasting. They monitor, analyze, and report on all aspects of the financial statements as well as budgets/forecasts. They complete regular reporting and presentations to senior management and the board of directors. They use this information to weigh in on organizational decisions with executive leadership. They ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and review reconciliations. They support the closing process, including the review and analysis of financial statements. They manage the audit, ensuring timely completion and adherence to internal controls
They represent accounting in cross-functional initiatives. They design and oversee the implementation of financial transactions automation while providing technical knowledge of general ledger integration. They can explain designs to others. They understand internal financial reports, the drivers of changes, can translate that understanding to users, and provide recommendations for improvements.
They work highly independently and can delegate work across their teams and negotiate work across departments. They design accounting processes, systems and controls. They approve company policy changes, draft memos/project charters, and create business plans to execute executive strategies. Their goals are communicated to them in problem or end-result terms. They provide the 'what', 'so what', and 'now what' for identified issues or objectives and can demonstrate a clear ability to calculate and evaluate return on investment. They are expected to identify root causes, recommend solutions, and implement those solutions independently. At times, their goals may be vague and visionary in nature. They supervise the work of the accounting department and provide organizational leadership throughout all departments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
- Align accounting operations, financial reporting, and analysis with the organization’s strategic and operational goals
- Deliver financial reporting and forecasting to the organization
- Support organizational financial objectives by providing financial analysis and recommendations
- Direct all accounting functions, including financial reporting, data analysis, balance sheet management, cash management, cost accounting, budgeting, capital expenditures, and credit management.
- Ensure internal controls, policies and procedures are in place and observed to provide confidence that company assets are protected, including segregation of duties.
- Establish and maintain superior partnerships with external financial partners, including banking, insurance, tax preparation and advisory services, auditing CPA firm, and solution services providers
- Continually train and develop accounting team members to effectively accomplish the department’s goals and objectives
- Work with all department managers, leadership team members, and executive team members to develop and execute the strategic plan and organizational objectives and identify opportunities to optimize financial performance
- Ensure credit risk is balanced with business objectives and that credit policies are robust and fairly applied
- Implement and maintain a balanced risk management function, including insurance
- Maintain appropriate financial system access, approval flows, and financial data controls
- Determine staffing levels and organizational structure for Accounting and Credit/Risk Management teams, identify required skills and qualifications for personnel capable of meeting the objectives, initiate and participate in hiring process, and make final hiring and firing decisions for accounting personnel; responsible for continued development of the team
QUALIFICATIONS
- A 4-year degree in accounting or business-related degree with emphasis in accounting
- CPA or CMA designation required
- 10 years current, hands-on experience in progressively responsible accounting roles
- Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate technical recommendations in a concise, understandable, and timely manner
- Experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing company
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products
- Advanced knowledge of and experience working with ERP systems
- Task and goal oriented, capable of functioning in an entrepreneurial, professional, fast-paced environment
- Able to handle multiple tasks and appropriately prioritize for on-time delivery of first-class quality

Salary : $190,000 - $225,000
