Senior Technical Designer / Fit & Product Development Manager

Benaar LA is a growing women's contemporary fashion brand focused on creating elevated, sophisticated pieces for women who want designer-inspired style at an accessible price point. We work closely with both domestic and overseas manufacturers and are actively expanding our private label and original product development collections.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Designer who can bridge the gap between design inspiration and production-ready garments. This role is critical in helping us establish consistent fit, sizing, grading, and quality standards across all Benaar collections.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate is highly technical, detail-oriented, and experienced in women's apparel fit and product development. You will work directly with the Founder to transform inspiration garments, competitor samples, factory prototypes, and design concepts into production-ready styles with accurate specifications and consistent fit.

This is not a traditional fashion design role. We are looking for someone who excels in technical design, fit development, grading, garment construction, and production execution.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Design & Product Development

• Analyze inspiration garments, competitor products, and factory samples.
• Create comprehensive tech packs for all private label styles.
• Develop detailed measurement specifications and construction guidelines.
• Establish and maintain Benaar's fit standards and sizing architecture.
• Create and manage garment specifications, trims, finishes, and construction details.
• Translate design direction into production-ready documentation.

Fit Development & Grading

• Conduct fit sessions and provide detailed fit comments.
• Evaluate and determine appropriate sizing from XXS–XL.
• Develop grading rules and size specifications across all categories.
• Identify fit issues and recommend corrections prior to production.
• Ensure consistency of fit across dresses, tops, skirts, pants, outerwear, and matching sets.
• Help establish Benaar's core fit blocks and long-term sizing standards.

Production & Factory Communication

• Review and approve development, fit, and pre-production samples.
• Communicate technical corrections and fit comments to factories.
• Track revisions through multiple rounds of sampling.
• Review factory measurements and verify compliance with specifications.
• Approve garments prior to bulk production.
• Troubleshoot fit, construction, and production issues.

Vendor & Overseas Factory Management

• Work directly with overseas factories, primarily in China.
• Ensure all technical details are communicated clearly and accurately.
• Build strong relationships with manufacturing partners.
• Help streamline communication between Benaar and factory development teams.

Qualifications

• 5 years of Technical Design experience in women's apparel.
• Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, patternmaking, and grading.
• Extensive experience creating tech packs, specification sheets, and fit comments.
• Ability to accurately measure garments and identify fit issues.
• Experience working directly with overseas factories and production teams.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and technical design software.
• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple styles and development calendars simultaneously.

Strongly Preferred

• Experience working for contemporary women's fashion brands such as Reformation, Veronica Beard, Rails, Johnny Was, Anthropologie, Free People, or similar brands.
• Background in patternmaking and fit development.
• Experience building fit standards and grading systems from the ground up.
• Experience working with private label and overseas production.
• Experience developing products for women ages 35 .

Major Plus

Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is a significant advantage.

Because Benaar works extensively with China-based manufacturers and development teams, candidates who can communicate directly with factories in Mandarin will be strongly preferred. The ability to discuss fit, construction, specifications, and production details without language barriers is a major asset for this role.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 6 months, this person will:

• Establish Benaar's core fit standards and sizing architecture.
• Create standardized tech pack templates and development processes.
• Improve fit consistency across all product categories.
• Reduce fit-related production errors and returns.
• Build a scalable product development system from concept through production approval.
• Become the technical lead between Benaar and our manufacturing partners.
