JOB DESCRIPTION
Senior Tax Manager
Location Bountiful, UT preferred; hybrid or remote considered for the right person
Employment Full-time
Reports to Principal / Managing Partner
Entity Bement Advisors, LLC
Compensation
Competitive base performance incentive a near-term path to minority
ownership
Why This Role, Why Now
Bement & Company has spent more than 35 years earning the trust of individuals, families, and
business owners across Utah and the country. We have no interest in coasting on that. We are
deliberately rebuilding the firm around a simple conviction: the best tax work is advisory work:
proactive, judgment-driven, and organized around the real decisions our clients are making, not
just the returns we file.
We are rebuilding how the work gets done at the same time. As a partner firm of the Franklin
Alliance, we have the technology, infrastructure, and operational support to move far faster than
a traditional firm can. We are investing heavily in technology and automation, building our own
tools, serving as a design partner to leading Tax AI startups, and putting AI to work across the
practice so our people spend their time on judgment, strategy, and the client relationship instead
of mechanical preparation.
The Senior Tax Manager is the person who carries both of those forward. You will own a
portfolio of high-value clients, make the calls that matter, coach the team delivering around you,
and help design the AI-enabled firm we are building. This is one of the most important hires on
our roadmap, and the right person has a fast, clear path to minority ownership. You can see
where we are headed here: futurefirm.bementcompany.com.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for a tax professional who is genuinely excited about two things at once: doing
high-judgment advisory work for clients who need it, and helping build the modern, AI-enabled
firm that delivers it. This is not a seat where you push returns through in volume and go home.
You want to be the trusted advisor in the room, and you want a hand in how the firm runs.
Your background probably looks like
● 6 years in tax at a senior or manager level at a CPA or advisory firm, with a track
record of owning client relationships, not just preparing files. CPA strongly preferred; an
EA or advanced credential (MST, CVA) is a plus.
● Deep technical command of individual and pass-through taxation. Complex 1040s,
S-corps, and partnerships are second nature, and you have real exposure to
high-net-worth individuals and closely-held businesses.
● You have planned, not just prepared. Entity structuring, reasonable compensation,
multi-year projections, basis and distribution planning, real estate and transaction work,
you have done the proactive work, not only the compliance behind it.
● You have sat across from an owner and given a real recommendation. Not “here is
your return,” but “here is what I would do, and why.” You are comfortable being the
person the client calls before they make a move.
● You have managed and reviewed others' work. You can tell the difference between a
teaching moment and a redo, and you would rather develop a preparer than quietly fix
their file.
● You are comfortable with modern tools. QBO, a practice-management system like
Karbon, document and workflow automation and you are curious, not resistant, about
where AI fits in tax.
What sets the right person apart
● You are tech-forward by instinct. You reach for tools like Replit and Claude to solve
your own problems, you tinker, and you do not wait for someone to hand you a process.
The idea of building AI and automation into how a firm works energizes you.
● You make the call. Advisory is judgment under uncertainty. You are comfortable giving a
clear recommendation and standing behind it, rather than hiding behind “it depends.”
● You see the whole client. For owners, personal and professional decisions are tangled
together. You advise the person and the business, helping clients navigate taxes
alongside the life and career decisions wrapped around them.
● You build people up. You coach, you develop, you raise the bar around you. You want
to build a bench, not a set of dependents.
● You roll up your sleeves. Early on you will do the work and build the systems both. The
right person finds that energizing, not beneath them.
What You'll Actually Do
The role splits roughly into four areas. The mix shifts over time, more hands-on delivery and
building early, more leadership and ownership as you prove out the seat.
1. Own a Portfolio of Advisory & Tax Clients
● Serve as the trusted advisor to a book of high-net-worth individuals and business
owners, typically with $1M–$20M in revenue. Year-round cadence, not just a filing
relationship.
● Make the judgment calls. Tax strategy, entity structure, timing, compensation,
transactions, and the personal-and-professional decisions that come with running a
business and building wealth.
● Be an extension of the client's business. At Bement we don't just file; we sit in the
decisions. The owner's confidence that they are making the right move, that is the
product.
● Own the relationship and the advice end to end. The quality of the thinking, the clarity
of the recommendation, and the follow-through are yours.
2. Build AI & Automation into How We Work
● Help design the AI-enabled firm. Use and improve our stack — Replit, Claude,
Soraban, Karbon, QBO — and the work we do as a design partner with leading Tax AI
startups.
● Find the leverage. Identify what can be automated and what must stay human
judgment, then build or adopt the tooling that frees the team to do the work that actually
requires a brain.
● Be a design partner, inside and out. Give real feedback to the startups we partner
with, and build internal tooling and workflows the rest of the firm can run on.
● Raise the floor on quality and speed so our people spend their time on advice and
relationships, not mechanical preparation.
3. Coach and Develop the Team
● Review work and develop people. Teach, don't silently fix. Route comments back with
the why, so preparers and associates actually get better.
● Set the standard for what great advisory and great tax work look like, and hold the team
to it.
● Build the bench. Hire, mentor, and create a place where good people grow into bigger
roles. Part of how you earn ownership is by raising the ceiling of everyone around you.
4. Help Build the Future Firm
● Contribute to firm-level decisions on pricing, service design, technology investment,
and hiring. You will have real input from the start.
● Drive the transition from compliance-heavy to advisory-first, and help shape the future
firm structure we are building toward.
● Earn your way into ownership. This seat is designed to become a minority ownership
stake upon proven execution, a near-term, real path, not a someday-maybe.
What We Offer
● A fast path to ownership. This is the headline. The right person has a clear, near-term
path to minority equity ownership upon proven execution. We want an owner-operator,
not a long-term employee.
● A modern, AI-forward firm. You will work with a real technology stack: Replit, Claude,
Soraban, Karbon, QBO, and design partnerships with leading Tax AI startups. We are
building the firm most accountants only talk about.
● Clients worth advising. High-net-worth individuals and business owners in the
$1M–$20M range who need real strategy, not just compliance. The work is interesting
because the stakes are real.
● A team-focused culture. We believe we are an extension of our clients' business and
their trusted advisors and we treat each other the same way. People here build each
other up.
● Impact and a builder's seat. You are not slotting into a finished structure. You are
helping build one, and the person in this seat will help shape Bement's trajectory for
years.
● Flexibility. Bountiful is our home base and there are real advantages to being in person
with the team, but we are open to hybrid or remote for the right person. We hire the
person, not the ZIP code.
● Benefits. Health, dental, and vision coverage. Retirement plan with employer match.
Generous paid time off.
The Honest Version
A few things worth saying out loud, because we would rather you know before you apply than
find out in month three.
● This is a builder's seat, not a caretaker's. We are mid-transition from a
compliance-heavy past to an advisory-first future. You will help define the playbooks, not
inherit polished ones. Comfort with ambiguity is a requirement, not a nice-to-have.
We actually use AI — it is not a buzzword here. If you are skeptical of, or simply
uninterested in, building AI and automation into how you work, this is not the right seat.
The right person is excited by it.
● Ownership is earned, not handed out. The path to minority ownership is real and
quick, but it is tied to proven execution, delivering for clients, building the team, and
helping the firm move forward.
● We move fast, and senior doesn't mean above the work. Especially early, you will do
the actual advisory work and build the actual systems. The right person finds that
energizing.
