MIDDLETOWN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
POSITION: School Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS: Current Connecticut RN licensure required. CPR/AED certification. Capable of independent, critical thinking during medical emergencies. Must be capable of maintaining general school nursing services from within the school health office and committed to the work of population health which includes implementing/supporting physical and mental health related initiatives within the school.
Capable of walking hallways of significant distance in a timely manner as well as some mild to moderate lifting. This position requires skills in the ambulatory through special care needs scope of practice for nursing. Previous school nursing experience preferred. Pediatric nursing may substitute for school nurse experience depending upon skills experience.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Minimum Education
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing required.
Minimum Work Experience
Prior pediatric, school nursing or acute care experience preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Possession of valid State Nursing (RN OR LPN) license required.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.

Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment required.
Knowledge and ability to successfully utilize Relay/Medicaid on-line platform required.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with community providers required.
Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate proficiency in Gastrostomy tube feedings and medication administration, tracheostomy care and suctioning, catheterization (clean and sterile), and emergency response procedures required.
Ability to work independently and respond quickly in high-pressure situations required.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations required.
HOURS OF WORK: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Monday – Friday) *Follows School Year Calendar*
