Montessori Lead Lower Elementary Teacher Position Description BMCH
GENERAL OVERVIEW OF POSITION
Beltway Montessori Children’s House, Inc. (BMCH) Montessori Lead Lower Elementary (LE) Teacher leads and grows a dynamic Montessori lower elementary program that provides care and education for children ages 6 to 11 years. BMCH is a homeschool cooperative and located in Greenbelt, providing Montessori instruction for children ages 5-12, as well as full-time Montessori tutorial services for children registered as home-school students (Ages 5 through Age 11).
BMCH was founded in May 2019 by a group of dedicated parents who joined together to ensure children in Prince George’s County had access to a high-quality, affordable and results-oriented Montessori education. A commitment to children and their education is BMCH’s driving force. All children need and crave the opportunity to learn and demonstrate what they know to their peers, teachers, and parents. BMCH’s program strives to ensure that all families can access that opportunity. The mission of BMCH is to provide a nurturing environment that allows children to be themselves, progress at their own pace, and function in a larger community.
The Lead LE Teacher is passionate about the education of children and plans and delivers thorough, engaging,
Montessori-based lessons consistent with the mission and vision of BMCH.
The Lead LE Teacher collaborates with the Director of Education to carry out BMCH’s broad educational mission and policies as established by the Board of Directors and pledges to:
- Embrace and champion BMCH’s mission.
- Implement standards of quality education and care while upholding the Montessori philosophy.
- Cultivate effective relationships with all community members, including students, families, and board of directors.
- Demonstrate accountability for assignments and responsibilities delegated by the Director
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a harmonious Montessori classroom culture, paying particular attention to the needs of students.
- Carefully observe students’ individual progression through the classroom always being available to offer gentle guidance.
- Provide direction in arrival, lunch period, play period, setting and dismantling classroom.
- Supervise Lower Elementary students.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, as well as, all school events and conferences.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. Responsibilities to Students:
- Consistently strive to meet all Lead LE Teacher responsibilities of customer service, guiding and nurturing the development and learning of elementary students. Provide identifiable activity routines for the students, a prepared environment, observing the students.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge and application of Montessori principles/philosophy.
Use a daily schedule based on prescribed Montessori ideals. Function as a reference person and exemplar for students.
2. Responsibilities to the community
- Maintain ongoing knowledge of Montessori principles. Maintain needed skills to guide and direct primary/elementary students.
- Keep student information confidential.
- Be professional and positive in all dealings with children and their parents.
- Maintain accurate student records and co-develop individual learning plans and progress reports for each student with Director.
- Create an environment that fosters and showcases Montessori learning.
- Maintain knowledge of elementary expectations.
- Use appropriate positive Montessori discipline techniques with students.
- Maintain constant supervision of students in care; attend to students in distress.
- Supervise all activities to ensure proper participation and safety.
- Interact with the students in a friendly and supportive manner using student’s names with a calm tone of voice.
- Follow policy and procedures for all of the students’ activities and follow all regulatory agency standards.
- Report to the Director any signs of illness, injury or abuse of students. Take appropriate action in any emergency situation.
3. Responsibilities to Classroom & Staff.
- Follow policy and procedures for all of the students’ activities and follow all regulatory agency standards.
- Be familiar with the Family Handbook and Staff Handbook.
- Support Director responsibilities of customer service.
- Consistently and regularly attend work as scheduled.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Director, President, Chairman of the Board or their designate.
- Assist with facility clean-up and maintenance of student areas, both interior and exterior.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development workshops.
- Assist Director with planning and preparing for open houses and parent events as requested.
- Must work in any additional capacity as requested by the Director as needed in both short and long term situations.

REQUIREMENTS
❑ EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE:
The MINIMUM required to perform this position:
2-3 years elementary education experience and education in a related field; a Bachelor’s degree and/or Montessori Certification for the appropriate age group.
❑ SPECIALIZED TRAINING AND/OR LICENSING:
Montessori credentials - MACTE certified
❑ AGE:
Must be 21 years of age.
❑ ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
