Bellows Falls Union High School is seeking a full-time, talented, and dynamic educator to join our teaching faculty as a High School English Teacher. The ideal candidate will be licensed or eligible for licensure in English/Language Arts (Grades 7–12) by the State of Vermont. This position requires a strong commitment to fostering a trauma-informed classroom environment and implementing proficiency-based grading practices. The teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and standards-aligned instruction that supports students’ growth in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking. Collaboration with colleagues, responsiveness to diverse student needs, and effective communication with families are essential to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
-Design and deliver engaging English/Language Arts instruction aligned with Vermont state standards and proficiency-based learning practices.
-Create a trauma-informed, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that fosters academic growth and social-emotional development.
-Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests of all students.
-Assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments aligned with proficiency-based grading.
-Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning and growth.
-Integrate technology and digital tools effectively to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
-Communicate regularly and effectively with students, families, and school staff to support student success.
-Participate in school-wide initiatives, staff meetings, professional development, and school events as a contributing member of the school community.
-Uphold all school policies, procedures, and professional expectations as defined by the Windham Northeast Supervisory Union and the Vermont Agency of Education.
Qualifications:
-Valid Vermont Educator License with an endorsement in English/Language Arts (Grades 7–12)
-Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining a trauma-informed classroom environment
-Familiarity with and commitment to proficiency-based learning and assessment practices
-Experience teaching diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Language Learners
-Strong classroom management skills rooted in restorative practices or positive behavior supports
-Proficiency with integrating technology into instruction (e.g., Google Workspace, learning management systems, digital literacy tools)
-Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and colleagues
-A growth mindset and commitment to continuous professional development
-Experience working in a rural public school setting or a strong interest in community-based education
-Ability to contribute to the school’s co-curricular or extracurricular programs is a plus
