Job Title: Maintenance Assistant

Department: Maintenance

Supervisor: Assistant Maintenance Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

The Maintenance Helper is responsible for completing work tickets that are related to the maintenance of Bello Machre’s homes and office buildings. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 7:30am until 3:30pm, with a one-hour paid lunch break. Hours may vary based upon the needs of the department. The Maintenance Helper will be expected to assist, on an as-needed basis, with field emergency situations.

Basic Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to work both indoors and outdoors, including in extreme heat or cold weather conditions. Examples include building fences in the summer or shoveling snow in the winter.

Education and/or Experience

A high school degree and a minimum of one year of experience in the field of construction is required.

Trainings, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Must have and maintain a valid Maryland driver’s license
  • May not have more than three points on their license at any time
  • May not have any alcohol- and/or drug-related citations on their license

Bello Machre Orientation (Training will be provided upon hire)

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, and reach with hands and arms, with the ability to lift at least 50 pounds and assist with moving furniture and office equipment.

Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to homes, various offices, and out in the community.

OSHA

Employees in this position perform tasks that may involve potential exposure to blood and other bodily fluids. All employees are expected to utilize universal precautions and follow all safety guidelines. Employees are offered the opportunity to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination at no cost at any time during their employment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The employee must have a general knowledge in the operation of power tools including, but not limited to, electric and battery-operated drills, saws, and other tools related to the home improvement field.

  • Complete work tickets as assigned, providing accurate written information prior to turning completed tickets in for posting by the supervisor
  • Assist with troubleshooting basic electrical issues and perform corresponding repairs
  • Assist with installation of various electrical fixtures
  • Assist Technicians with plumbing repairs including repairing/replacing bath and kitchen sink traps, fixtures, basket replacements, hot water heaters, and other related plumbing issues
  • Assist with basic construction, including installing flooring, drywall removal/replacement/repair, finishing, rough and finish trim work, assembling storage sheds, separate flooring, and painting
  • Assist with diagnosing and performing appliance repairs
  • Assist with moving household and office furniture
  • Conduct snow removal on Bello Machre property, ensuring a safe environment
  • Participate in individual supervisory meetings and department meetings
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of Bello Machre’s employees and individuals while repair and construction work is performed
  • Hand tools, supplies, and materials to other workers
  • Prepare the work area
  • Pick up needed materials for each job location
  • Perform monthly replacement of HVAC filters
  • Replace light bulbs, door knobs, and plunge toilets
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule Maintenance

40 hours per week flexible but generally 730-330
