Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of jewelry items to evaluate authenticity, quality, and condition
- Utilize specialized tools and techniques to determine the value of various jewelry pieces, including gemstones, precious metals, and designer brands
- Write 50-100 appraisals weekly for store bought & third party jewelry
- Schedule appraisal clients for large drop-offs & official organizations
- Screen all appraised jewelry for necessary repairs & following through with client
- Screen any potential problem-items for fracture fills and other features that may complicate repairs
- Front end customer service when the store is busy (phone calls, check-outs, etc)
- General jewelry identification for both staff and clients
- Occasional off-site appraisal-centric events
- Maintain detailed records of appraisals, including photographs, descriptions, and valuation notes
- Stay updated on current market trends, pricing fluctuations, and industry regulations affecting jewelry valuation
- Communicate appraisal findings clearly and professionally to clients, colleagues, and management
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards within the jewelry industry
Requirements
- Seeking a jewelry professional willing to become a graduate gemologist
- Proven experience in jewelry appraisal or related fields such as gemology or precious metals assessment
- Strong understanding of jewelry materials, gemstones, and industry valuation methods
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify subtle differences in quality and authenticity
- Ability to utilize software & specialized appraisal tools effectively
- Strong math skills for precise measurements and calculations during appraisals
- Effective communication skills for explaining complex valuation information clearly to clients and team members
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
