Salaried, minimum 40 hours per week
Lead staff person responsible for special events and informal educational programming at Bellingrath Gardens & Home (BGH). Manages event organization and operations (including beer/wine sales), all facility rentals (including weddings), and communications with vendors. Creatively reviews ongoing programs and events with an eye toward continual improvement. Develops new programmatic initiatives and additional events.
● Organize and execute all special events, seasonal events (Great Bellingrath Harvest, a future orchid festival), and informal educational programs to ensure success and a unique experience
● Work with BGH staff team on major events such as Magic Christmas in Lights and the Gulf Coast Chinese Lantern Festival
● Continue growing and managing rapidly expanding wedding rental program, including fielding all requests for bookings, services related to bookings that have already been made, and inquiries/tours of BGH facilities; process and handle contracts and payments
● Hire and manage event staff (i.e., bartenders, concession workers, etc.)
● Manage inventories of needed products and supplies (including beer/wine) for all events
● Ensure that a member of the Programs & Events team is present at all events
● Arrange appearances at industry events, shows, markets, etc. to promote BGH's rentals and programs goals
● Review all existing programs and events for efficacy and mission-relatedness
● Meet and/or exceed revenue targets each year
● Work with Director of Guest Experiences to conceptualize new programs and events with the goal of attracting diverse audiences to BGH
● Interact and collaborate with staff in other departments for successful outcomes
● Develop and manage a Programs and Events budget
● Develop and maintain a master calendar for all programs, events, vendor deadlines, etc.
● All other tasks and duties as assigned
● 5 years of programs and events experience
● Ability to focus on program goals and objectives, plus day-to-day operations, and not just on creative expression
● Knowledge and experience with events organization and execution, including vendor relations, local regulations, and a "return on investment" philosophy
● Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
● Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team
● Excellent written and oral communication
● Proficiency in MS Office Suite
