TITLE: AFTER SCHOOL EL MATH SKILLS ACCELERATION TEACHER GR 8-12
POSITION SUMMARY:
This program is designed to help accelerate content and language acquisition for English learner students grades 8-12 by offering an extended day program that connects to core curriculum and the prerequisite math skills and the language of math needed to access grade level standards and beyond.
Snacks are provided for student participants.
PROGRAM DATES: Fall Semester: September 29 - December 19 (12 weeks)
2 days per week, flexible Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday late bus days
1 hour of prep is provided for every 2 hours of instruction
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design fun and engaging lessons (from already curated resources) that are culturally and linguistically sustaining, honoring students assets, prior knowledge, and full linguistic repertoire
- Select appropriate math lessons from already curated resources, identified from student math screener data (already administered in October) that reteach prerequisite skills and background knowledge for grades 8 math standards
- Select appropriate hands on activities and/or projects and games to engage students in skill practice and demonstration of learning and use of target language
- Differentiate instruction for EL students of various proficiency levels
- Supervise students at arrival and dismissal
- Document learning experiences (bulleted objectives) on template provided by EL Director
- Share student experience summary/photos with EL Director a minimum of 3 times during the length of the program to share with families
- Follow all applicable school rules
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. MA Educator Licensure and SEI Endorsement and/or ESL Licensure preferred
2. Current Member of Bellingham Public Schools faculty preferred
SALARY: $45 per hour, subject to grant funding
