The Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Director in maintaining the interior and exterior of the facility, including fixtures, equipment, and mechanical systems. This role ensures repairs are completed promptly, preventative maintenance is performed, and safety standards are consistently upheld.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine repairs to walls, fixtures, furniture, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and building systems
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies
Assist with preventative maintenance schedules and documentation
Conduct routine safety checks (generator, fire systems, water temperatures, call lights, etc.)
Maintain exterior grounds and building appearance
Repair wheelchairs, handrails, doors, windows, and other equipment
Maintain workshop and storage areas in safe condition
Follow infection control and workplace safety procedures
Assist with fire drills and disaster preparedness activities
Maintain accurate maintenance logs and records
Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience: At least 1 year experience in general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, or related field preferred
Qualifications & Skills
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and building systems
Ability to troubleshoot and complete general repairs
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
Strong communication and customer service skills
Dependable, organized, and safety-focused
Ability to document maintenance activities
Physical & Working Conditions
Frequent standing, bending, climbing, squatting, and reaching
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Exposure to mechanical equipment, cleaning chemicals, and healthcare environment
24-hour skilled nursing setting with occasional emergency response needs
