JOB SUMMARY:
Provide day-to-day cleaning, inventory stocking, hospital equipment upkeep and cleaning, disinfection, cleaning and maintenance of surgical and dental instruments and supplies, pet cremations, stocking, maintaining cleanliness throughout the facility and grounds, general duties as assigned and helping the hospital in providing excellent customer service through performance of your duties. Primary responsibilities are related to Hospital Attendant duties while additional duties may be requested by the Department Managers, but are to be completed if time is available and primary duties have been attended to.
REQUIRED JOB OBJECTIVES:
Objective 1: To provide superior health care for our patients and excellent customer service to our clients thorough effective cleaning, stocking, disinfection and maintenance of the Bellevue Animal Hospital building, grounds and equipment.
Objective 2: You are responsible for Objective 1. If you feel that you are not able to do this in any fashion (training, restrictions, etc.) it is YOUR responsibility to report this to the Office Manager. They will then determine if additional management is to be consulted or if additional training, supplies, equipment, etc is needed and will satisfy the concern.
Objective 3: As the Hospital Attendant, you must be responsive to the supervision, delegation, training, correction, evaluation input, and performance suggestions of the office manager, practice manager, or any owner of the hospital.
Objective 4: As many of the aspect of your job are self guided, you are responsible for effective time management. While maintaining a continuous level of activity is not required, respectful and productive use of your “on-the-clock” time is required. A good work ethic is absolutely expected and required. This is not only for the benefit of the hospital, but for all your team mates that may have to “complete your duties” if you are not pulling your weight and using your time effectively. For instance, if they have to clean or re-clean items that should have been cleaned during the course of your duties this is not considered acceptable. A positive attitude and strong work ethic WILL be taken into account for promotions, bonuses, raises and continued ability to serve as the Hospital Attendant.
Objective 5: As the Hospital Attendant and member of the Bellevue Animal Hospital team, discretion of judgment is a necessity. You should be a role model for those team members around you and a valued resource for the managers and owners.
Objective 6: As the Hospital Attendant you will be required to submit (at a minimum) yearly to a performance review of your position. All items in this job description are able to be considered during this review for purposes of raises, bonuses, proficiency, consideration for promotion and continuation as the Hospital Attendant.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. PHARMACY:
· Maintaining adequate working supply of medications in the laboratory cabinets.
· Bringing supplies up from the basement and placing them into the laboratory cabinets as needed.
· Noting on the order sheet if inventory is low on supplies you move.
2. RECORD KEEPING:
· Maintain logs of daily, weekly, monthly, etc cleaning performed
3. SURGERY:
· Understand and applies the basics of sterile technique
4. CLEANING:
· Clean and disinfect cages and runs
· Walk through hospital and kennel areas to ensure cleanliness
· Pick up waste from lobby and yard areas
· Wash and dry laundry (surgery and general laundry)
· Vacuum and mop kennel areas
· Empty trash
· Empty recyclables
· Clean scales, counters, seats, tables, walls
· Clean sinks and wet table
· Clean surgery area after surgery
· Clean surgery instruments, prepare surgery packs and sterilize
· Clean dental instruments, sharpen, prepare dental packs and sterilize
· Clean floor mats & rugs
· Empty outside trash
· Work on keep busy list when slow.
· Other cleaning duties as assigned
5. STOCKING:
· Toilet paper
· Soap dispensers
· Paper towels
· Medical supplies
· Pet food
· Unpacking and checking off of shipped medical supplies and pet foods
· Other stocking duties as assigned
STOCKING: (cont.)
· Reporting to office manager when supplies are low and need to be ordered. (Only the things that they are responsible for ordering).
· Reporting to Dr. Truax when supplies are low and need to be purchased (Menards, Sams, Online, etc) (Only the things that he is responsible for purchasing).
6. CUSTOMER SERVICE:
· Assist clients to car with pet if needed
7. CREMATIONS:
· Perform cremations on pets for both individual and group cremations in a professional and timely manner.
· Maintain the cremation log
· Preparation of remains and placement in an urn as needed.
· Maintaining proper levels of urns in stock and ordering urns as needed.
· Day-to-day cleaning and maintenance of the crematory and building.
8. MISC. DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
· Stocking pet food as shipments arrive.
· Deep cleaning projects
· Assemble puppy and kitten kits
· Assemble first aid kits (as needed)
· Manage hospital brochures
· There will occasionally be duties associated with the above categories and basic hospital operations that are not specifically listed, but will be expected to be performed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work setting often is noisy. When working with or around animals that are frightened or in pain, a Hospital Attendant is at risk of being bitten or scratched. So, it is best to avoid opening kennels or petting hospitalized pets without permission from an attending doctor. Care must be taken while working and cleaning around pets in the hospital to minimize excessive noise, chemical fumes, etc

Must be able to operate computer & draw up syringes
Stooping/Kneeling/Reaching:
Frequent stooping, kneeling, and reaching to access patients, stocked items, cleaning, etc…
