**Position Overview**
The Bellefonte Area School District is seeking a Special Education Paraeducator to support students with academic, behavioral, and social skill development under the direction of the classroom teacher. This vital role contributes to inclusive learning environments by assisting students in both special education and general education settings. The successful candidate will provide individualized support, foster student independence, and collaborate with educators to promote student success.

Required
While performing the duties of this job, the emplo ee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, and hear. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will need the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to stand or walk fifty percent (50%) of the workday. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. Ability to hear with 40 decibel loss maximum and see with acuity of 20 inches or less, and far acuity of at least 20 feet normal depth perception, field of vision and accommodation.

**Position Overview**

**Key Responsibilities**
The Special Education Paraeducator Will
- Respect the role of teacher(s) as supervisor.
- Collaborates closely with supervisor(s) and special education teachers to enhance student learning.
- Provide clerical and supportive duties as designated and keeping records as needed.
- Participates in training/meetings as assigned to help with student achievement in skill deficit areas.
- Interpersonal skills using patience and courtesy with students, staff, and parents/guardians.
- Works with students to improve student self-confidence and motivation.
- Conducts and follows schedules that include whole group, small group, and individual lessons, with training to enhance student's behavior management/social-emotional development, academic skill areas, and functional skills.
- Implements the fidelity of positive behavior intervention plans and behavior management techniques needed to ensure student growth and achievement.
- Provides instruction in skill deficit areas including academic, behavioral, social, and daily living.
- Provide re-teaching, pre-teaching and tutorial support under the direction of the teacher.
- Maintains classroom supplies, and assists in planning, and preparing supports for students.
- Carry out activities as directed by related service providers (e.g., Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Vision Teachers, Speech and Language Pathologists).
- Administers positive reinforcement strategies and techniques.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Maintains complete confidentiality of all student information.
- Provides students with a safe learning atmosphere.
- Enforce all school regulations and classroom rules with students.
- Assist students in extra-curricular and community-based instruction including transportation of students and support to access work sites for job shadowing experiences.
- Supervise and/or assist students with self-care activities (toileting, washing face and hands, clothing care, feeding, etc.).
- Assist students with feeding and food preparation as needed.
- Become knowledgeable with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by teachers or administrators.
- Minimum:** Associates or Bachelor's Degree or 48 college credits
Minimum
- Six months experience working with students
- Previous role working with students in public education
Required
- Completion of Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Training and Exam
