Job Summary
The Special Education Instructor teaches core academic subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) to middle and high school students with diverse learning needs that benefit from a supportive, trauma-informed, and highly individualized learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Deliver differentiated instruction in core academic subjects based on students’ IEP goals and present levels of performance.
- Develop, adapt, and implement lesson plans that accommodate various learning styles and needs.
- Integrate therapeutic and social-emotional learning strategies into academic instruction.
- IEP Implementation & Compliance
- Participate in IEP meetings, collaborate with team members, and contribute to the development of IEPs.
- Collect and maintain data on student progress toward IEP goals; provide regular updates to families and team members.
- Ensure all instruction and documentation are compliant with federal and state special education laws.
Classroom Management & Environment
- Foster a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment that supports academic and emotional growth.
- Implement positive behavior supports and trauma-informed practices.
- Collaborate with therapeutic staff to support students’ holistic needs.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with related service providers, program instructors, and families to support student success.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, and school events as required.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
