Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our 2nd shift team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in various facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all occupants. This role requires a proactive approach to cleaning and basic maintenance tasks, contributing to the overall appearance and functionality of our school buildings.

General Description:
Perform custodial work required for the safe and clean routine care, operation, protection, and preservation of the assigned building, its contents, and building perimeter
Essential Functions:
Performs and is directly responsible for the routine cleanliness, safety, and minor maintenance repair of the building and its equipment, including phases of housekeeping duties.
Develops and ensures proper function of work, inspection, maintenance, and cleaning schedules with the cooperation of the principal and/or designee.
Maintains clean, safe, and neat custodial, storage, and boiler rooms.
Removes snow, ice, debris from walks, steps, and entryways.
Helps unload trucks, receives, checks, and stores supplies.
Successfully completes required tasks such as sweeping, mopping floors, waxing, emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, trash, and pencil sharpeners, refilling towel and soap dispensers, and toilet tissue, removing cobwebs, cleaning windows, cleaning all grease or chalkboards at least once per week; dusting, and polishing furniture and woodwork as necessary.
Keeps buildings in a neat, clean, safe, and presentable fashion inside and outside. Inspect equipment for proper operation on a regular basis.
Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems (if applicable) to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and ensures economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
Raises the flag of the United States of America at or before 8 A.M. on each school day and lowers it at or after 3:00 P.M.
Maintains the necessary supplies and equipment to perform custodial tasks.
Opens and secures the building each day, turns on/off lights.
Cleans and maintains custodial equipment and materials.
Keeps the adjacent schoolyard mowed, as requested, and maintained in a neat and well-kept fashion.
Reports areas that need special maintenance to the maintenance supervisor.
Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment for various activities and as directed by the administration or maintenance supervisor.
Makes minor repairs to building, furniture, equipment, and so forth, and reports the need for other repairs to the maintenance supervisor.
Orders custodial supplies and replenishes supplies in restrooms and replaces light bulbs.
Cooperates with all staff members, students, parents, and community members.
Assists lunchroom personnel in the housekeeping duties of the kitchen and cafeteria, including the removal of refuse.
Completes reports and forms as required.
Complies with local laws and all safety procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
Cleans building during the summer under the supervision of the supervisor of maintenance/building principal, and/or local superintendent.
Leaves instructions as necessary to other custodians pertaining to work that must be done and activities that may be held after school hours or the next day.
Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property and cleans up any acts of vandalism immediately after reporting such activities.
Reports custodial problems to the principal and/or maintenance supervisor.
Comply with policies of the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local School District Board of Education.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
Conducts other duties related to the custodian's duties as assigned by the principal, assistant principal, maintenance supervisor and/or superintendent.
Additional Working Conditions:
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
Occasional operation of a truck or vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
Occasional interaction among unruly children.
