Duties
- Conduct thorough eye examinations to assess vision and diagnose ocular conditions.
- Provide patient education on eye health, vision correction options, and preventive care.
- Maintain accurate medical records using EMR and EHR systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care.
- Perform various diagnostic tests, including measuring visual acuity, assessing eye movement, and checking for color blindness.
- Prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses based on individual patient needs.
- Stay updated on advancements in optometry practices and technologies.
- Ensure a high level of customer service by addressing patient inquiries and concerns effectively.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid state optometry license to practice.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye care.
- Familiarity with optical equipment and techniques is advantageous.
- Proficient in using EMR and EHR systems for maintaining patient records.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service and patient interaction.
- Ability to perform vital sign assessments and understand medical coding practices is a plus.
- Aseptic technique knowledge is beneficial for maintaining a clean working environment.
