Job Title: Legal Assistant/Secretary
Department: Litigation
Reports to: Supervising Attorney
Pay: non-exempt; commensurate with experience
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Communicate with clients, gathering necessary documents and information to begin building a case. When appropriate, send out invoices and other correspondence with clients.
- Manage all administrative responsibilities in the legal office, including calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics, conduct conflicts checks, and work with clients.
- Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes; organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices.
- Organize all legal documents in a confidential way.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks when appropriate.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least two years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
