Job Description: Lighting Application Specialist / Specification Sales Assistant
Position Overview
The Lighting Application Specialist / Specification Sales Assistant supports the specification sales team by developing high‑quality lighting designs, photometric studies, and technical documentation. This role requires expertise in lighting analysis software—including AGI32, AutoCAD, and Revit—to produce accurate layouts that meet project, code, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate combines technical proficiency with strong communication skills, ensuring a smooth workflow between sales, engineering, and clients. This role will also require communication to the design team and client to express design concepts, story boards, and mock-ups.
Key Responsibilities
Lighting Design & Photometric Analysis
- Create detailed photometric layouts using AGI32, ensuring accuracy in illuminance levels, uniformity, and compliance with project specifications and lighting standards.
- Develop architectural and technical drawings using AutoCAD and Revit to support project submittals and design documentation.
- Interpret architectural plans, electrical drawings, and design specifications to produce accurate lighting solutions.
- Conduct lighting calculations for interior, exterior, roadway, and specialty applications.
Sales & Specification Support
- Assist the Specification Sales Team with technical documentation, photometric packages, and design presentations.
- Generate submittals, cut sheets, and layout packages for project proposals, bids, and customer presentations.
- Support sales representatives with product selection, application recommendations, and design optimization.
- Maintain organized project files and ensure all deliverables are completed on schedule.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with architects, engineers, lighting designers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure alignment on design intent and technical requirements.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders, providing support throughout all project phases.
- Coordinate revisions and updates to project layouts based on customer feedback or evolving project requirements.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure designs adhere to IES standards, applicable energy codes, and industry best practices.
- Review project deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of lighting technologies, controls, and industry trends.
Qualifications
Required
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit. AGI32 is a plus, but we can train
- Strong understanding of lighting principles, photometry, and IES standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and construction documents.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred
- Experience in lighting design, architecture, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with lighting controls, energy codes (e.g., IECC, Title 24), and sustainable design.
- Experience in specification sales or working with manufacturers/rep agencies.
Work Environment
This position often collaborates across sales, design, and engineering teams and may include occasional jobsite coordination or customer meetings. Most work is performed in an office with standard business hours. Occasional travel for manufacturer trainings may be required.
