We are developing the future of Army Aviation with the Bell Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) part of the US Army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization effort. We are also developing the Bell 525 Relentless and Bell's High-Speed Vertical Take-Off and Landing (HSVTOL) program, a next generation stop-fold tilt-rotor. This position is onsite in Fort Worth.

Bell is seeking a CNC Process Engineer to support the Production Engineering Team at our Drive Systems Center.

Contributing to the successful completion of major projects that support strategic priorities or difficult technical objectives, the CNC Process Engineer is responsible for selecting cutting tools which will produce a part to Engineering and Manufacturing requirements. The CNC Process Engineer has the responsibility of approving special cutting tool designs and introducing new technical advancements in machine tool processes as well as maintaining an overview of cutting tool performance and usage.

This position long term will also execute projects for the Core ME Support group to include ensuring the smooth preparation of CNC data, post processing / simulation, proper execution of all CNC machines and troubleshooting any problems that arise. Further activities will include ensuring the proper integration of process management. Includes training and mentoring other peers and researching the latest in technological advancements. The development of standard reporting metrics, best practices and standards, and additional tasks as assigned by management

Skills/Experience:

  • Direct customer facing experience either supporting production, industrialization of product or frontline leadership.
  • Able to effectively identify, report and resolve potential safety and quality hazards/risks.
  • Works through a disciplined approach in initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing projects.
  • Train and/or mentor new and existing teammates and colleagues on manufacturing technologies, proper NC programming, manage machine adjustments, use of GD&T for Manufacturing, or operate CNC equipment.
  • Able to apply cutting tool design and analysis knowledge to evaluate discrepancies and anomalies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook
  • Develop and chronicle detailed records of CNC programming best practice and standards including tool application and NC approach, detailed data points, requirements, and approach.
  • Experience in 5 Axis machinery and probing.
  • Construct research and development CNC programs in CATIA on multifunction lathes, multifunction mills, high speed mills, grinders, etc.
  • Support the development of digital automation throughout the manufacturing engineering lifecycle
  • Partner with MTC (Manufacturing Technology Center) to ensure alignment with business direction moving forward on CNC platform and infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to CNC processes and part quality throughout the full manufacturing process lifecycle (Preplan, CAD/CAM, Postprocessing, Machine Control, Metrology)
  • Comprehensive understanding of the processes and workflows that are associated with Part Planning and NC Programming including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Must have the ability to motivate and mentor others within the team and be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written.
  • Proven ability to act as focal point for resolution and escalation of all manufacturing engineering problem solving.

What You Need To Be Successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required with preference in Engineering, NC, Computer Science, or Manufacturing Technology.
  • 10 years in aerospace or related manufacturing industry working with CNC machining or composite manufacturing.
  • Experience with full NC Programming and Post processor life cycles
  • Experience in successful shop floor collaboration and relationship building
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GDT Standards
  • Experience with CATIA v5 CAD/CAM
