Position Description

Position Objective

The role of the Natural Resources Applicator is to perform invasive species management practices throughout Pennington County.

Position Functions

Essential Functions

• Take direction from Foreman/Technician to complete tasks as assigned with no supervision.
• Identify invasive species and protected or endangered species.
• Mix, load, and apply pesticides in full accordance with label.
• Apply pesticides at proper rates.
• Maintain proper and accurate daily application records.
• Assists in building, maintaining, and repairing equipment.
• Uses GPS/GIS for mapping natural resources
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
• Maintain compliance with all County policies and procedures
  
  

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required:

• A High School degree or GED certificate.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid South Dakota Driver’s License.
• Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator in South Dakota.
• Certification in All Terrain Vehicle Safety Operation.
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards
• Must be able to move freely, hike steep inclines, use pesticide application equipment, GPS units, pick-ups & 1-ton trucks, ATV/UTV vehicles, various shop equipment, power tools and manual dexterity is needed to type, write, use a calculator, and answer telephone.
• Upper body strength is a requisite to move a maximum of 50 lbs. unassisted; and move more than 50 lbs. with assistance.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly on telephone and in-person
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• No allergic reactions to pesticides.
  
  

Additional Information

Working Environment

• Work is performed in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments, where the employee is exposed to conditions including; cold and/or hot weather, outdoor hazards, moving mechanical parts, and traffic. Noise level may be loud at times.
• Overtime hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
• Travel throughout the county and outside the county for trainings and meetings; some may require overnight travel.
