Job Summary

As a ready mixer truck driver, you will operate a heavy-duty truck (Gross Vehicle Weight over 26,000 pounds) equipped with auxiliary concrete mixer, consisting of a revolving drum to mix the concrete components during transport to construction sites. You will be responsible for maintaining the materials in a liquid state through agitation or turning of the drum, until delivery at its destination. Once on site, you will safely maneuver the truck appropriately to feed the concrete mixture to designated areas with a gravity fed chute on the back of the truck.

Duties

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip truck inspections.
  • Monitor truck and company equipment to ensure proper operation and professional appearance.
  • Maneuver truck into loading position for filling (hopper at plant) and unloading positions at customer job sites.
  • Operate mixer to produce concrete from sand, gravel, cement, and water. Adjust mixture (slump) as requested by customers at job sites.
  • Clean truck after loading and after each delivery to prevent concrete from hardening in mixer and on truck surfaces.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or coolant and performing minor repairs.
  • Complete delivery documents, collect payment from customers when required and keep records of daily activities.
  • Spray truck surfaces with protective compounds to resist concrete adhesion and for specialized cleaning.
  • Operate equipment, such as truck mixer controls, two-way radio, mobile phone, tablet, and global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with dispatch, supervisors, or other drivers.
  • Adhere to company policy and all applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Assist with various plant operations, such as general carpentry, maintenance and mechanical work as directed.
  • Assemble chutes and operate levers to release concrete per customer request.
  • Occasionally operate dump trucks and other plant equipment, as directed.

Work Environment

  • Requires working in hot (90°F ) and cold (32°F-) temperatures.
  • Requires walking on terrain that may be uneven, muddy, and slippery.
  • Exposure to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Exposure to diesel exhaust, dust, and water mist or vapor.
  • Variable lighting conditions, dependent upon available natural light.

Functional Demands Related to Essential Job Functions

Specific functional measurements and observations of usual work situations and equipment are included here. These measurements are not to be presumed as a conclusive list:

  • Lift and carry chutes weighing 35 pounds from hanger on side of truck to mixer discharge chute.
  • Manually open truck hood, requiring up to 75 pounds pushing force at a height of approximately 48 inches.
  • Climb truck ladder up to 9 feet to clean hopper. Balance on railing-enclosed platform, to spray water to wash down.
  • Demonstrate good balance and agility to frequently step up/down from truck cab with step heights up to 22 inches and walk on uneven and wet/slippery surfaces at customer sites.
  • Must be capable of all planes of reaching to include from ground to waist, to chest level, to shoulder level and up to 72" above the ground.
  • Operate hand tools and hose nozzle requiring an estimated grip force up to 20 pounds, often with hands raised above shoulder height.
  • Extended periods of sitting while driving to/from job sites with constant vibration and motion, typically less than 30 minutes but could be an hour or more.

Hours

The standard work week is from Sunday at 12:00 a.m. until Saturday at 11:59 p.m. office hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Individual work schedules may vary depending on the needs of each department. Employees are guaranteed a minimum of 40 working hours per week.

Due to the nature of the Company’s business, employees’ individual work schedule may vary in order to satisfy customer and the Bell Concrete’s needs.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of Class B commercial driver license required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Previous concrete-related experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills required. Ability to read and interpret mixer truck gauges.
  • Demonstrated ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor.
