Part-Time Accounting Representative / Accountant

Location: Downtown Memphis, TN

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire or Direct Hire

Schedule: Part-Time | Monday–Friday | Afternoon to Evening Hours

Compensation: $29/hour

Overview

We are seeking a Part-Time Accounting Representative / Accountant to support accounting and bookkeeping functions for a large, established utilities organization in downtown Memphis. This position will support invoice processing, supplier setup and maintenance, reconciliations, reporting, and general accounting operations within a structured, high-volume environment.

This opportunity can be structured as either contract-to-hire or direct hire and is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, solid accounting support experience, and proficiency working within ERP systems and Excel.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform bookkeeping and accounting support functions across multiple departments
• Process invoices, payment requests, wires, refunds, and related transactions accurately and timely
• Review and analyze W9 documentation for new and existing suppliers and ensure proper setup within Oracle
• Maintain and securely file W9 and 1099 documentation while ensuring IRS reporting accuracy
• Compile supplier payment information and assist with 1099 processing and reporting
• Monitor and maintain Accounts Payable and accounting-related reports, including Invoice on Hold and Unaccounted Transactions reports
• Process journal entries related to utility bills and imprest fund transactions
• Reconcile retainage balances, utility payments, and other transactions to the general ledger
• Assist internal departments with supplier setup, updates, and accounting-related inquiries
• Utilize Oracle, CIS, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word to retrieve, analyze, update, and maintain financial data
• Support reporting, reconciliations, and additional accounting projects as assigned
• Train new employees on invoice payment and accounting processes as needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Prior accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable, or accounting support experience preferred
• Experience working within Oracle or similar ERP systems strongly preferred
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills required
• Understanding of basic accounting principles and reconciliations
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities
• Ability to work independently in a structured, deadline-driven environment
• Valid driver’s license required

Compensation & Structure

• $29/hour
• Part-time schedule at approximately 20 hours per week
• Monday–Friday afternoon to evening hours
• Opportunity available as either contract-to-hire or permanent/direct hire
• Fully onsite position located in downtown Memphis
