The Customs Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for customs and trade compliance activities and support for Belimo Americas
What You'll Do
Customs compliance
Maintenance of accurate HTS classification of Belimo materials and products
Ensure proper Country of Origin documentation
Review Free Trade Agreement eligibility
Import / Export Documentation
Audit Commercial Invoice and shipping documentation for non compliance
Manage AES filings
Restricted party screening
Monitor and maintain Denied party screening (GTS)
Training
Involvement in regular training or compliance regulations (EAR, ITAR, OFAC)
Audit / Internal Controls
Conduct internal audits of customs entries export filings (AES)
Provide input in SOP’s and corrective actions for found non compliance
Proficient in the use of SAP GTS
Manage and resolve trade compliance issues such as:
Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and legal trade requirements
SAP-based preferential origin calculations
Customs duty classifications, tariffs, and charges
Customs audits and sanctioned/denied party screenings
Embargoes, supplier declarations, and product markings
Lead and support projects related to import, export, and trade compliance.
Provide shipping compliance support, ensuring alignment with legal and internal requirements.
Ensure full understanding of shipping compliance processes in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001standards.
Act as liaison with Business Applications and project management teams to ensure system and process alignment.
Additional Duties
Verify supplier declarations and certificates of origin; run preferential pricing controls and initiate corrective actions when needed.
Manage and support duty drawback programs within the assigned region.
Maintain expert-level knowledge of industry terminology related to:
Insurance and Incoterms® 2020
Transportation and legal trade regulations
Customs and banking documentation requirements
Support C-TPAT certification process through continuous oversight and improvement.
Provide administrative logistics support when necessary.
Who You Are
Education: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Trade Compliance, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in trade compliance, with a strong track record of managing cross-border compliance matters.
Technical Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of international customs regulations, export control laws, and sanctions regimes.
Proven ability to provide strategic and operational guidance to Trade Compliance Specialists and local management teams across international subsidiaries.
System Proficiency: Advanced user of SAP, SAP Global Trade Services (SAP/GTS)
Communication & Leadership:
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders across global functions.
