Position Overview:
The School-Based ESE (Exceptional Student Education) Coordinator provides leadership and support in the development, implementation, and monitoring of services for students with disabilities, including those enrolled in post-secondary transition and vocational programs. This position ensures compliance with federal and state regulations and supports students’ academic, social, and career readiness through individualized services and collaborative planning.
Key Responsibilities:Program Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local ESE regulations, including IDEA and Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) requirements.
- Develop, update, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Transition IEPs for students ages 14–22, ensuring transition goals and vocational planning are appropriately addressed.
- Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings with students, families, educators, and vocational program staff.
- Monitor documentation, eligibility, reevaluation timelines, and service delivery records.
Post-Graduate Transition & Vocational Program Coordination
- Oversee programming and services for post-secondary transition students (ages 18–22), including those in supported employment, community-based instruction, and vocational training settings.
- Collaborate with vocational instructors, local employers, and community agencies to develop work-based learning opportunities.
- Assist students in developing life skills, employment readiness, and independent living goals.
- Ensure transition services align with students’ post-secondary goals, including college, employment, and independent living.
Instructional Support
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers to support differentiated instruction and accommodations.
- Support implementation of career and technical education (CTE) and job-readiness curricula for eligible students.
- Monitor student progress in both academic and vocational settings; adjust support plans as needed.
Staff Collaboration & Training
- Provide training to staff on ESE compliance, transition planning, and inclusive best practices.
- Serve as a liaison between the charter school, district ESE offices, and community service providers (e.g., Vocational Rehabilitation, APD, etc.).
- Mentor paraprofessionals and instructional assistants supporting students in vocational or transition programs.
Family & Community Engagement
- Partner with families to support transition planning and vocational goal setting.
- Organize and lead transition fairs, workshops, and informational sessions for students and families.
- Build community partnerships to enhance post-secondary opportunities for students with disabilities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Florida Certification in Exceptional Student Education (K–12).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with students with disabilities, including transition-aged youth.
- In-depth knowledge of IDEA, ESE compliance, and transition planning.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing or coordinating post-secondary transition or vocational education programs.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal vocational and transition services.
- Prior experience in a charter school or alternative education setting.
- Certification in Educational Leadership or related field.
- Bilingual (Spanish/Creole) preferred.
