Essential Job Duties

  • Assists classroom teachers with individual students to eliminate or replace disruptive, harmful or negative behaviors with positive actions.
  • Assists building staff to implement positive reinforcement-based classroom management systems.
  • Assists transportation staff regarding the use of behavioral management programs on buses.
  • Attends and participates in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, IEP meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Complies with Board policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
  • Reports cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, professional training seminars, and workshops.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention plans that address the behavioral needs of students.
  • Performs a variety of duties to assist the Principal in managing the school; steps in for Principal absences when appropriate
  • Supervises and assists in evaluating the performance of designated classified personnel; assigns duties to classified staff as appropriate to meet school objectives.
  • Develops and maintains disciplinary procedures and records in accordance with district policies and state laws; receives referrals and confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints as it pertains to student discipline.
  • Supervises students on campus before and after school; monitors students during lunch, recess, and other activities; instructs students in appropriate behavior; disciplines students in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Monitors and organizes attendance functions; prepares letters, calls parents, and attends meetings as needed, regarding absent or tardy students; provides leadership for attendance improvement efforts.
  • Head school PBIS team and provides direction to a variety of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Liaison to the after school program in collaboration with school staff and/or personnel from outside agencies.
  • Works with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students.

  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board policies.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events, gather, collate, and/or classify data and use job-related equipment.
  • Skill in adhering to safety practices.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate records and using pertinent software applications (as required).

 

Equipment Used

  • Computer, calculator, copier, telephone/voice mail, fax, wheelchairs and other special needs equipment.

 

Required Qualifications

  1. Valid Montana Educator License (K-8 or equivalent)
  2. Certification in the district approved crisis intervention techniques or ability to become certified within three months of employment. (District will provide training if needed).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Successful experience working with students with behavioral needs.
  2. Administrative or Special Education Endorsement

Necessary special requirements:

 

  • Montana Driver’s license or the ability to obtain license within three months of hire date.

 

Physical and Mental Demands and Work Hazards

 

  • Performs routine work.
  • Regularly works both inside and outside in Montana weather.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Frequently required to sit, occasionally walk, stand and reach with hands or arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
  • Significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Required to be able to hear conversations in loud and quiet environments.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 10 - 30 pounds on a routine basis with or without an accommodation.
  • Frequently involved in interactions with hostile/aggressive acting students.
  • The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity.
  • Frequently involved in interactions which require oral and written communications.
  • Exercises flexibility and the ability to shift from one task to another.
  • Frequent travel/mobility between schools, or between schools and the Administration office, may be required.
  • Work area is generally a hazard free environment.
  • Demonstrates regular attendance performing duties as described.
  • Reports to work fit for duty with characteristics inherent to the position.
