Job Summary

The Senior Estimator / Project Manager is a key leadership position responsible for both preconstruction and project execution. This individual will oversee estimating efforts, develop competitive bid strategies, manage awarded projects, and serve as a trusted representative of Belec Electrical to clients, contractors, engineers, and suppliers.

This role is ideal for an experienced electrical construction professional who enjoys both winning work and successfully delivering projects. The successful candidate will play a significant role in the company's continued growth and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Preconstruction

• Review plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to identify project scope, risks, and opportunities.
• Prepare accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor estimates.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop competitive bid strategies.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
• Participate in design-build and value engineering opportunities.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
• Analyze project risks and recommend pricing strategies to company leadership.
• Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.

Project Management

• Manage projects from award through closeout.
• Develop project budgets, schedules, procurement plans, and manpower forecasts.
• Coordinate material purchasing and subcontractor activities.
• Track labor productivity, project costs, and profitability.
• Prepare, negotiate, and manage change orders.
• Lead project meetings with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and field personnel.
• Review billing applications and assist with collections.
• Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Leadership & Business Development

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, engineers, and vendors.
• Assist with business development and identifying new project opportunities.
• Mentor and support junior estimators, project managers, and field personnel.
• Collaborate with company leadership on strategic growth initiatives.
• Promote Belec Electrical's culture of safety, professionalism, and accountability.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of electrical construction experience.
• Minimum 5 years of estimating and/or project management experience.
• Strong knowledge of commercial, multifamily, industrial, and institutional electrical construction.
• Experience working in a union electrical contracting environment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Proficiency with Accubid, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and related construction software.
• Strong understanding of NEC requirements and construction best practices.
• Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and bid opportunities simultaneously.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Experience

• Design-build and negotiated project experience.
• Experience managing projects ranging from $250,000 to $10 million .
• Existing relationships within the Chicagoland construction market.
• Experience working directly with owners, developers, and general contractors.
