About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support research, development, and new product introduction activities within the Mission Systems Division. This role involves leading complex mechanical design projects focused on aerospace-grade pneumatic and hydraulic systems while collaborating with cross-functional engineering and program teams.
The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in aerospace product development, high-pressure system design, DFSS methodologies, and SolidWorks-based mechanical design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute mechanical product design activities within project cost and schedule constraints.
- Develop conceptual designs into fully mature and manufacturable product solutions.
- Support research, development, testing, validation, and certification activities.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks using data-driven engineering methods.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, systems, testing, and program management.
- Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) principles throughout the product lifecycle.
- Create and maintain engineering standards, design guides, and best practices.
- Support design-for-manufacturing and assembly initiatives to optimize recurring product costs.
- Interface directly with internal and external customers, suppliers, and engineering stakeholders.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers within the mechanical engineering domain.
- Participate in failure investigations and root-cause analysis activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in:
- System design
- Product development
- Mechanical design engineering
- Production design problem resolution
- Strong proficiency in:
- SolidWorks 3D CAD
- GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Engineering drawing standards
- Experience with aerospace new product introduction methods.
- Knowledge of high-pressure pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems.
- Strong analytical, communication, and technical leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- DFSS Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience in:
- Pneumatic/hydraulic valve design
- Static and dynamic sealing technologies
- Stress analysis (fatigue, vibration, acceleration, dynamic loading)
- Steady-state and dynamic performance modeling
- Control systems
- Electromagnetics (solenoid/latch valves)
- Thermodynamics
