Mechanical Test Equipment Engineer

A Mechanical Test Equipment Engineer job in Rockford, IL is currently available through Belcan at one of our key aerospace clients. We are seeking a mechanical engineer to design, develop, and support advanced test systems for mechanical power conversion products used in military and commercial applications. The ideal candidate has experience with mechanical, hydraulic, thermodynamic, and power transmission systems and can lead projects from concept through commissioning. This role requires strong technical problem-solving, cross-functional collaboration, and ownership of test equipment development, validation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Duties:

• Design and develop test equipment for mechanical power generation, transmission, and distribution products.
• Create test systems for gearboxes, air turbine starters, fuel pumps, and lubrication systems.
• Develop engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Lead equipment fabrication, assembly, verification, validation, and commissioning.
• Analyze test results and implement design improvements to meet performance objectives.
• Define maintenance, calibration, and operational requirements for test equipment.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Program Management, and Operations teams.
• Support root cause investigations and product reliability improvements.
• Manage projects to meet schedule, cost, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop proposals, budgets, and plans for test equipment and facility infrastructure projects.
• Drive Lean and continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, or related discipline, advanced degree preferred (an associate degree and strong relevant experience will also be considered)
• Five years of experience in designing and developing test systems
• Engineering Development Testing Experience
• Experience writing technical reports including Test Procedures and Engineering Test Reports
• Schedule Management Experience
• Test Setup experience

Test Conformity familiarity

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience designing mechanical rotating equipment
• Experience with hydraulic and fluid systems
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (2D drafting) and Siemens NX (or similar 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks)

We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a salary range of $78,800.00 – $95,000.00. Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline.
