Residential CAD Drafter / Designer

Full-Time | 4 Years Experience | Residential Architecture & Design

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Residential CAD Drafter / Designer to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who has a strong understanding of residential architecture and construction and enjoys turning design concepts into accurate, detailed drawings that can actually be built.

The successful candidate will have 4 years of residential drafting experience, strong Revit skills, and a solid understanding of residential construction methods, building materials, architectural details, and construction documents.

You will work closely with our designers, architects, project managers, builders, contractors, and homeowners throughout the design and construction-document process. Projects may include custom homes, remodels, additions, and other residential projects.

What You'll Do

• Develop detailed residential floor plans, elevations, building sections, details, and construction drawings using Revit.
• Produce accurate permit-ready and construction-ready drawing sets.
• Take sketches, field measurements, photographs, and design concepts and turn them into accurate, buildable drawings.
• Develop projects from preliminary design through final construction documents.
• Make revisions based on input from homeowners, designers, architects, engineers, contractors, and project managers.
• Review drawings for accuracy, dimensions, consistency, constructability, and completeness.
• Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, and other consultant drawings.
• Prepare and update as-built drawings and existing-condition plans.
• Develop construction details, schedules, notes, and other documentation as required.
• Interpret architectural plans, specifications, structural drawings, and construction documents.
• Help identify potential conflicts or construction issues before drawings are released.
• Maintain organized project files and follow company drafting and documentation standards.
• Communicate with the project team to resolve drawing and design issues.
• Manage multiple projects while meeting established deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy.

What We're Looking For

• 4 years of professional residential CAD drafting/design experience.
• Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit.
• Experience producing complete residential construction and permit drawing sets.
• Strong understanding of residential construction methods and building practices.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
• Strong understanding of dimensions, scales, layouts, and drafting standards.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
• Ability to understand how drawings translate into actual construction in the field.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a project team.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Experience That Is a Plus

• Custom home design
• Residential remodeling and additions

• Working directly with builders and contractors
• Working with homeowners throughout the design process

• SketchUp
• Enscape or other architectural visualization software
• Creating detailed wall sections, roof details, stair details, and other construction details

The Person We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who doesn't just know how to draw a floor plan, but understands how a house goes together.

You should be comfortable looking at a design and asking questions such as:

• Does this actually work in the field?
• How is this going to be framed?
• Where does the structure go?
• How does the roof come together?
• Are the dimensions and details coordinated?
• Will a builder be able to understand these drawings without having to guess?
