The Child Peer Support Specialist will report to the Director of Operations and receive supervision from the Support Specialist Supervisor, ensuring ongoing professional development and support.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual peer support services to children and families within the community.
- Assist clients in developing treatment goals within the first 30 days of service.
- Support clients in restoring, rehabilitating, and developing social and interpersonal skills.
- Identify, enhance, and establish support networks, increase community awareness, and teach coping strategies.
- Promote the development of daily living skills for clients.
- Help clients manage the negative effects of psychiatric or emotional symptoms.
- Assist clients in identifying and responding to triggers that may lead to functional impairments.
- Implement and update Peer Support Plans on an ongoing basis.
- Participate in collaborative meetings with Behavioral Health Services staff and other community supports as needed.
- Communicate regularly regarding clients' status, including changes in mood, functioning, medical issues, and any crisis or health and safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate and effective clinical documentation for every client contact.
- Attend all required office trainings and regular clinical supervision sessions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Bilingual Spanish-speaking ability.
- Self-identification as a current or former consumer of mental health services, or as a first-degree family member of someone who has received such services.
- Demonstrated minimum of 6 months in self-directed recovery within the last year (if applicable).
- Ability to use a computer interface to complete documentation for billing or other purposes as needed.
