Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our psychiatry and mental health practice. This role involves managing accurate coding, billing, and documentation processes to ensure efficient reimbursement and compliance with healthcare regulations.
**Experience with Synergistic Office Solutions (SOS) EMR & Billing Software highly preferred, but not required.**
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical coding standards, billing procedures, and electronic health record systems, specifically within mental health services. Duties
- Accurately code psychiatrist and mental health services using CPT and ICD-10 codes, as well as other relevant coding standards.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims efficiently while ensuring compliance with payer requirements.
- Review medical records for completeness and accuracy before billing submissions.
- Handle prior authorizations with insurance companies.
- Manage medical billing processes including patient invoicing and follow-up on outstanding accounts.
- Handle medical collections by communicating with insurance companies and patients regarding unpaid claims.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare regulations and coding updates relevant to mental health services.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems for documentation and billing purposes.
- Ensure all medical records are organized, accurate, and compliant with privacy laws.
Experience
- At least 3 years of recent experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting, preferably in mental health or behavioral health services.
- Experience working with Synergistic Office Solutions (SOS) EMR/Billing Software is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and other relevant coding standards.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation practices.
- Prior experience in medical collections, accounts receivable, or revenue cycle management is a plus.
- Knowledge of medical office operations and familiarity with insurance claim processing is preferred.
Salary and Benefits
- Compensation will start at $25.00 an hour.
- The position can be either part time or full time, depending on qualifications and capabilities.
- Full time employees (40 hours) are eligible for select benefits, such as 401(k) matching.
- All work must be done in-person. You must be located in/able to reliably commute to our Sarasota location. Remote work is not allowed.
