What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Billing Specialist position at Behavioral Health Billing?
I am looking for a sharp, persistent, and organized assistant to help manage my administrative life and tackle the "detective work" of behavioral health billing. This isn’t just about submitting claims; it’s about solving the puzzle of why they haven’t been paid yet.
Key Responsibilities
- Claims Investigation: Reviewing unpaid claims logs, researching denial codes, and identifying the "why" behind non-payment.
- Insurance Advocacy: Navigating insurance portals and making phone calls to carriers to resolve outstanding issues.
- Meticulous Documentation: Updating internal logs with status changes, notes from calls, and projected resolution dates.
- Administrative Support: Assisting with scheduling, email management, and various personal/professional tasks as they arise.
Which Path Are You?
- Remote Path: You will operate as a 1099 Independent Contractor. You must have a secure, HIPAA-compliant home office and your own reliable equipment.
- Local/Hybrid Path: If you are local to Oak Park, IL and able to work from my home office, this role begins as a contractor position with the potential to transition into a W-2 Employee role after an initial trial period.
Requirements
- The "Detective" Mindset: You enjoy digging into details and don't stop until you have an answer.
- Experience: Previous experience with Behavioral Health billing, insurance portals, or medical revenue cycles is highly preferred.
- Communication: A professional phone presence and clear, concise writing skills.
- Reliability: You must be comfortable with "over-documenting"—if it isn't in the log, it didn't happen.
